Clearing is Hiring a Remote Lead Product Designer

As a Lead Product Designer, you will own the visual and ux design for the Electronic Health Record System — a product essential to the vision and strategy of Clearing. Patients living with chronic pain have dealt with a medical system that often dismisses their concerns and treats them like a faceless number in a waiting room — a traumatic experience that can actually make pain feel worse. That’s why we want to reimagine how doctors and nurses engage with patients by creating a clinical tool that inspires clinicians, presents patients as whole people, and helps our medical team avoid burnout so they can provide a world-class patient experience for every patient.

You’ll apply your understanding of user behavior and skill as an empathetic observer to come up with innovative ideas, set a vision, define and design an experience that meets user needs and business goals. Reporting to the Head of Design, you’ll collaborate closely with the product and engineering teams to craft the first beautiful clinical tool that puts patients first.

What You’ll Do:

  • Partner with our clinical, operations and product teams to review and understand how each of our clinical team works together to provide a world-class patient experience
  • Provide insights on why clinicians and patients experience problems through user research and observation
  • Come up with innovative solutions for displaying complex data about the human body in a way that helps doctors and nurses make sense and draw insightful conclusions quickly
  • Define a vision that reimagines what a clinical tool can be, pulling from consumer facing and analogous experiences that help us design a ground-breaking workflow experience
  • Partner with the Patient Facing work stream to come up with new ways to connect patients and clinicians and ensure that the experience is consistent
  • Help doctors and nurses deliver a best in class “web-side manner” by designing an EHR that makes the documentation and organization of clinical tasks intuitive so they can focus their attention fully on the patients
  • Extend and maintain our design system in partnership with brand design and engineering
  • Research user behaviors and identify pain points for our product and other similar products/services
  • Conduct competitive UI/UX analysis of both competing and analogous products, and ensure we are maintaining UX design best practices
  • Think through and explicitly define user flows and edge cases across a responsive web product
  • Collaborate seamlessly with your partners in product management to test and iterate on our experience
  • Collaborate with engineering to translate designs into user experiences

What We’re Looking For:

  • 7 years of product or UX design experience for consumer brands with complex user interactions & flows
  • Experience with Figma, Sketch, or comparable design system/product design tooling
  • Demonstrable evidence of successful collaboration with product, engineering, and growth organizations
  • Experience mentoring and guiding junior designers
  • Natural leadership skills (clear communication, strong listening, optimistic outlook, inspiration hound) that make cross functional collaboration easy and fun
  • Humble expert mindset and comfort being a design advocate company-wide
  • Ability to empathize with people who may have had a very different lived experience than your own
  • Narrative driven style comfortable with iterating based off of both quantitative and qualitative feedback
  • Evidence of using research and user testing to steer UX design
  • Evidence of building best-in-class user experiences

What Will Make You Stand Out:

  • Experience operating in highly-regulated consumer experiences (insurtech, healthtech, fintech, etc.)
  • Experience with internal tools, especially in health care
  • Experience working in a best-in-class, fast-paced consumer technology startup environment
  • Experience working at a rapidly scaling venture backed startup

Benefits:

  • Competitive salary and equity
  • 100% covered medical, dental and vision for employee (dependents covered at 75% for medical and 50% for dental/vision)
  • Work from home office stipend
  • Wellness/fitness stipend
  • 401K program
  • Membership to One Medical/Teladoc/Talkspace/Kindbody
  • Generous PTO
  • Commuter benefits
