CLEAR is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the Data Assurance team. In this role, you’ll be responsible for building cutting-edge applications. We’re looking for someone who is passionate about technology, stays on top of the latest trends, and loves building enterprise-grade, distributed applications that provide value to our customers. You’ll do the best work of your career. Your team will be building distributed back-end applications that enable the ID Proofing of Clear members as we scale to 20 million. You will be interfacing with our cloud native services hosted in AWS using modern distributed application design patterns.

What You Will Do:

• Develop new, and enhance existing, Java-based server-side applications. Build tools and tests using Java and Groovy
• As a senior engineer on the team, you will be the technical leader developing & maintaining the back end applications and architecture
• Uncover requirements working closely with product managers; suggest technical designs necessary to implement features and get teams’ buy in
• Define and establish best practices for testing and designing reusable code
• Lead architectural, design, and technical stack recommendations within the team
• Balance feature development with tech debt and ensure the code is well tested, readable, maintainable and free of regression defects 
• Drive the operational excellence of the services owned by your team, including continuously improving the performance, observability and security of the application. Be part of the team’s prod support rotation

Who You Are:

• 8 years of Back-End development experience. Java experience is a requirement
• Experience with cloud-native development is required - experience with Kubernetes and Docker is required
• Knowledge of AWS, particularly working with API Gateways and AWS Lambdas is a plus
• Experience with Agile methodologies is required
• Experience developing APIs
• Experience with SQL and no-SQL databases
• Familiarity with observability principles like MTTD, MTTR etc and the Four Golden Signals
• Strong in object oriented modeling concepts, has developed multiple maintainable applications using appropriate design principles
• Proficient in a broad range of software design approaches and common design patterns. Knows when (and when not) to use software design patterns
• Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills
• Strong communication skills that can be applied at multiple levels within a tech org
• Can articulate the risks and benefits of depending on libraries, frameworks, and toolsets as well as articulate tradeoffs encountered during design and can clearly justify their decisions
• Able to provide technical guidance to other less experienced members of the team 
• Experience influencing software engineers’ best practices within your team
• Curious about technology and believes in constant learning
