Job Summary: Reporting to the Corporate Engineer, this position is responsible for providing strategic and tactical leadership in the development and implementation of environmental compliance, management, geotechnical, groundwater and related policies, programs and initiatives at multiple facilities. This position covers all environmental media (air, waste, water) in order to assure compliance with applicable laws regulations and industry standards consistent with the corporate and Health, Safety, Environment and Security policy.
This is a visible position requiring interaction with all levels of the organization including facility line management and the senior management team.
Requirements
Essential Functions: Criteria set forth by CWE, responsibilities also include but are not limited to the following:
• Manage and facilitate the corporate environmental goals to include the development and implementation of organization-wide plans and policies and programs across all environmental media in support of the organization’s environmental programs.
• Manage and continuously improve the environmental areas of the Environmental Health & Safety programs for two facilities in adherence to all Local, State, Federal and company requirements
• Serve as a contact with EPA, State and OSHA regulatory agencies.
• Manage tracking and reporting requirements.
• Assist with permitting for air, water, groundwater, pretreatment and waste regulations.
• Monitor compliance with air emissions, pretreatment discharges, with both hazardous and non-hazardous waste programs.
• Evaluate the facility’s environmental compliance and recommend and assist with the development and implementation of corrective actions.
• Keep abreast of new developments in environmental, health and safety engineering techniques, regulations, etc.
• Provide guidance to assure compliance with applicable environmental laws, regulations, facility and corporate policies and standards.
• Day to day and long-term management of existing environmental programs and permits including but not limited to FRP, RCRA, NPDES, SPCC, SWPPP plans along with other permits and programs.
• Maintain the Dayton’s Site Safety Assessment Work List.
• Daily plant compliance site walks to inspect all satellite accumulation areas, all buildings, plant safety equipment and the proper PPE utilization.
• Complete environmental health & safety questionnaires and audits for multiple existing customers and potential new customers.
• Assist with the consistent interpretation of applicable environmental laws and regulations.
• Interface with government agencies and the public on environmental matters, as needed.
• Compose summary reports for lab analysis.
• Other duties as assigned.
Competencies: Must have strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Must have effective written and verbal communication skills and work well with others. Must be able to multi-task. Must follow strict hygiene standards within the work environment. Must have ability to manage one’s own time. Must be able to follow direct supervision and instructions. Must be able to work independently and carry out tasks without direct guidance as needed.
Work Environment: This position requires some time in the office with work on site where there is potential for noise, dust, rain, hot and cold temperatures. Laboratory setting with exposure to hazardous materials.
Physical Demands: Must be able to talk or hear. Must be able to operate a computer or other office productivity machinery, such as calculator, copy machine and computer printer. Must be able to lift 25 pounds as this position requires the ability to occasionally lift office equipment, products, water samples, sample collection and supplies.
Required Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in environmental studies, science, engineering or related field
• 5 years’ experience managing environmental programs, geotechnical and groundwater projects
• 5 years’ experience developing and implementing strategic policies and programs to support regulatory compliance and continuous improvement
• Experience managing personnel, exempt and non-exempt
• Must have direct field experience conducting groundwater samplings
• Must have strong organization skills
• Must have strong verbal and written communication skills
• Must have ability to interpret data and compose reports
• Must have ability to work independently and also lead in a team environment
• Must have ability to work successfully with internal and external customers in a professional manner
• Experience working in a TSD or title V facility preferred
