This position will lead in the planning, management, scheduling, and direction from project concept into design and development through implementation of new products or product changes that meet or exceed CLARK market and profitability goals.NATURE AND SCOPE: The Senior Project Engineer reports to the Director of Engineering or others.The Senior Project Engineer supervises up to 20 exempt employees and may also oversee the work of temporary personnel as assigned.The Senior Project Engineer is responsible for the development and completion of an entire project. While the Senior Project Engineer must be able to perform any function of the development process, much of their time is spent in administering the project and directing the engineering design effort. Throughout the development phase of a project, the Senior Project Engineer will concur with various groups and individuals both internal and external to the company.The incumbent must be able to effectively communicate with these individuals.The incumbent is expected to stay abreast of advances in the field of engineering, the needs of the customer and the company, and maintain knowledge of both the company’s products and those of the competitors.ACCOUNTABILITIES AND PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS:Accountable for:Project Budget Product Cost Project Schedule (Design and Testing) Product Reliability, Dependability and Quality ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Plan, organize and lead the engineering design work in the development of new products or product changesDevelop, track, and maintain project budgets. Including manpower, expenses, and capital requirements. Develop and track project schedules to assure timely implementation of products or product changes. Oversee the creation and development of new and/or revised product designs. Develop test plan to ensure reliability, quality and product life goals are achieved. Concur with Marketing and Service to assure product market and service objectives are met. Work with Manufacturing and Purchasing to assure product cost objectives are met. Track cost model during the development phase. Administer performance reviews. Assist, coach, and discipline assigned personnel as necessary. Ensure product design meets applicable codes, standards, laws and self-imposed requirements. Provide project updates to CLARK management according to the Clark New Product Development Process. Manage projects and direct subordinates to accomplish product and project objectives. Coordinate efforts with various departments and groups, both internal and external, to the company. Such groups may include: Product Manager – to determine the specifications and cost of new product. Reliability Engineer – to develop the qualifications test plan (internal facilities and field locations). Test Engineering – to develop the component endurance, prototype performance test, and complaint testing plans. Advance Manufacturing Engineering – to ensure the manufacturing plan for new product is complete. Service Engineering – to ensure the truck meets the service requirements for ease of serviceability. Technical Publications – to ensure service and operators’ manuals are completed for the new product. Manufacturing – plant management (Lexington, Korea, China, Vietnam, Other) to put in place plan for building new product. Purchasing- to ensure the chosen suppliers are approved by Purchasing and Quality. Vendors – to order parts, ensure quality supplies. Marketing – to gain customer input, develop cost and pricing estimates. Manufacturing – to implement designs, improve production efficiency and quality. Customers – to improve customer satisfaction, gain input about customer needs. Quality Assurance – to ensure product quality and that trucks meet specifications. Other Engineers – for assistance with design solutions, ensure design fit. Check and verify the completeness and accuracy of all work performed by the incumbent and the work of others. Perform basic and complex calculations in mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic engineering. Determine and analyze various design attributes. Such attributes may include electrical controls, strength, loads, forces, stress, tolerances, fluid pressure and flow rates, etc. Oversee and coordinate the building, ordering, installation, and testing of prototype parts and trucks. Work closely with the test lab and/or their team members to ensure tests are conducted as needed. Maintain a high level of technical competence, including knowledge of the product, customer needs, and competitor products. Understand and apply the standards set forth in UL, NFPA, OSHA, ITSDF, ANSI, ASME, ISO, ITA, EN, CSA and others in all work. Operate equipment such as office equipment, PC-computer, NX/Teamcenter system, test equipment, or others as required to perform tasks. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Four (4) year Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or Physical Sciences, plus ten (10) years of experience in product design engineering, preferably in the material handling industry, with at least 3 of those years being in project management. Comprehensive technical knowledge of engineering mechanics, structures, materials, and processes with the ability to apply this knowledge effectively in product design and implementations. Good interpersonal relations and ability to work well with people in a leadership capacity. Capacity to plan, organize and lead. Working knowledge of accounting and profitability considerations.
