Claflin University is Hiring a Financial Aid Counselor Near Orangeburg, SC

Responsibilities

The Financial Aid Counselor works under the direction of the Director of Financial Aid. Assumes responsibility for counseling students (including the adult learner) and parents regarding the financial aid process, over-awards, need analysis, and budgeting. The Financial Aid Counselor manages a caseload of approximately 400 students. Responsible for the federal verification process, determination of eligibility, and making financial aid awards. Responsible for the determining eligibility for state grants and scholarships for students within caseload. Manage some institutional scholarship programs. Performs any other duties within the scope of this position. 

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting or a related discipline is required. Previous (one to two years) financial aid experience is required. Candidate must be knowledgeable of all federal and state regulations that pertain to financial aid; demonstrated ability to interpret and apply rules and regulations for all financial aid programs; and have good organizational skills. Applicant must have some knowledge of integrated student information systems and computer software applications. Candidate must have excellent customer service skills; demonstrated ability to work in a cooperative team-oriented environment; and strong verbal and written communication skills.
