Part-time Janitorial Maintenance Worker (20-24 hours per week)

General Statement of Duties

Performs routine building cleaning and maintenance for designated city facilities.

Distinguishing Features of the Class

This is repetitive manual work requiring efficient performance of building cleaning and maintenance duties. Employees in this position receive administrative supervision and specific instructions given only in the case of new or unusual assignments. Work is reviewed by inspection.

Examples of Work

• Empties all wastepaper baskets.
• Dusts chairs, tables and other furniture or equipment.
• Sweeps, mops, and waxes floors.
• Operates vacuum cleaners and floor buffers as required.
• Washes walls and windows.
• Cleans all bathrooms, cupboards, and storage areas.
• Orders supplies as required.
• Perform and document routine inspection and maintenance activities at city facilities, including City Hall, Public Works, Parks Facilities, and Senior Center.
• Completes minor repairs, like switching lightbulbs and unclogging toilets.
• Follows all health and safety regulations.

Acceptable Experience and Training

Some building cleaning experience and adequate education to read and write simple instructions and messages; or any equivalent combination of experience and training sufficient to indicate ability to do the work.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Considerable physical activity. Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds. Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of job. Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions. Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.

Pay: $16.00 - $17.50 per hour
