Engineer IV - Coastal EngineeringThis is a supervisory position in the City Engineer’s Office that will oversee Project Managers within the Coastal Engineering division. This position requires managing and working effectively on a team and providing direction, guidance, training and coaching to the engineers on the team. The ideal candidate should be knowledgeable in Coastal Engineering disciplines with demonstrated project management experience in major infrastructure projects, permitting, and construction. Candidates must be adept at working on multiple projects. Excellent written and oral communication skills are a must. Coordination with other City departments, consultants, contractors, government agencies, and project stakeholders is expected.

Job duties include:

• Provide planning, direction, and management of the Coastal Engineering division to support an efficient and productive staff.
• Provide training, supervision, and assistance to professional staff to ensure City standards are adhered to and that good engineering practices are followed.
•  Provide comprehensive engineering and management for the development of capital projects, including scopes of work, cost estimates, developing/maintaining project schedules and budgets, and related items for the Coastal Engineering division to administer its capital improvement projects
• Provide professional response to citizen inquiries concerning specific projects to properly inform them as well as incorporate their input.
• Prepare technical reports, studies, or presentations for upper management and present them to executive leadership including City Council.
• Interview, hire and conduct annual performance reviews for professional staff.4
