The candidates selected for this position will work on average 20 hours per week, must be available to work a varied schedule during program hours, and may be required to work nights, weekends, and during city-wide special events occasionally throughout the year.

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Plan, develop, organize, evaluate program(s), and follow up on important details; recommend new program.
- Monitor a variety of recreation and/or park permits.
- Assist with the coordination of staff assignments.
- Assist with monitoring budget expenditures in specified areas.
- Draft reports for distribution to other departments.
- Enforce rules and regulations to assure the safety and welfare of participants.
- Conduct inspections of buildings, facilities and equipment on a daily basis to ensure sites are safe and clean; recommend actions to supervisor.
- Anticipate and order needed supplies; ensure that equipment required is available for use.
- Maintain inventory; re-order and restock supplies as needed.
- Perform various related duties as required.
Any combination of education, training, and work experience to demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform in the position is qualifying. A typical way of obtaining the required qualifications is to possess: EDUCATION:High school diploma or GED equivalent.
EXPERIENCE: Some college courses preferably in recreation, education or related field highly desirable.
Demonstrated responsible experience in recreation or related programming for individuals of all ages and customer service. LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Due to the performance of field duties which requires the operation of a vehicle, a valid Class C California Driver License and evidence of insurance will be required. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: CPR/First Aid certification

Physical Requirements:- Ability to coordinate eyes, hands, feet and limbs in performing slightly skilled movements, such as pressing, cutting or mixing.
- Ability to exert moderate physical effort in sedentary to light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, carrying, pushing and pulling.
- Ability to maneuver and steer equipment and machinery requiring simple, but continuous adjustments, such as the operation of an automobile.
- Ability to work weekend and evening hours.
- Ability to lift, push and pull 15 pounds.

Environmental Adaptability:- Ability to work under moderately safe and comfortable conditions where exposure to environmental factors may cause discomfort and where there is a risk of injury, requiring minimal recovery.
Other Requirements:City application and supplemental questionnaires will be reviewed and candidates whose qualifications best meet the requirements will be invited to an oral interview. Candidates must pass a physical examination and drug screening after the conditional offer of employment. A background check will be conducted and proof of U.S. citizenship or employment authorization is required. Proof of satisfactory driving record also required.

Physical Examination: Employment offers are conditional based, upon the successful completion of a medical examination which includes drug and alcohol screening for safety sensitive positions. Physicals are performed by the City's designated physician at the City's expense. Candidates are cautioned not to quit their jobs or give notice to their current employers until they are determined to be medically qualified.
Possession of a Valid California Driver's License: An incumbent appointed to this position is subject to enrollment in the California DMV Pull Notice Program. The Pull Notice program provides information on the incumbent's driving record and Driver's License status on a periodic basis to the City of Signal Hill. An employee assigned a City vehicle must acknowledge receipt and understanding of City Policy covering the use of City vehicles.
Oath or Affirmation of Allegiance for Public EmployeesAll City employees are required to sign the Oath or Affirmation of Allegiance for Public Employees upon the beginning of employment.
Disaster Service Worker:All City employees are required to perform assigned emergency service duties in the event of an emergency or disaster and are required to sign a Disaster Service Worker Statement upon the beginning of employment.
