City of Reno is Hiring a Communications Assistant - Intern Near Reno, NV


The City of Reno is seeking a Communications Assistant (intern) who will assist with a variety of projects for the City of Reno with a focus on social media, media/press outreach, website content, blog posts, video content and audio content. The City of Reno Communications Team manages multiple social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram, and Nextdoor) and will be adding TikTok to the mix in the near future. This position will also provide support for media and public relations outreach as needed. 

Knowledge of:

Knowledge of social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram, Nextdoor, etc 

Operations, services and activities of a public information or communications program.

English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.

Operations of a public relations or communications function.

Office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications.

Ability to:

Write, edit and format newsletters and articles.

Work in a team based environment to achieve common goals.

Coordinate multiple projects and complex tasks simultaneously.

Meet the physical requirements to safely and effectively perform the assigned duties.

Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Education and Experience Guidelines - Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education/Training:

Completion of a high school diploma or equivalent supplemented by college level course work in public relations, communications, social media, or a related field.

Experience:

One year of experience in communications or working on a social media platform.

License or Certificate:

Possession of an appropriate, valid driver's license.

This is a temporary position up to 17.5 hours per week not to exceed 233 hours in the quarter and 1039 in the fiscal year. There are no benefits offered with this position.

Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; operate media equipment; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
