As a Treatment Plant Operator I, II, III for the City, you will be responsible for the operations of the water plant and wells to ensure that residents have potable water in accordance with federal, state, and municipal regulations, policies, and standards.

Treatment Plant Operator I (Water) - $42,938-$54,746

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Maintains plant records, both operational and regulatory.
  2. Collect and perform the required operational laboratory tests.
  3. Performs daily checks of the Water Treatment Plant and well sites.
  4. Performs daily reads on various meters
  5. Inspects, operates, and performs routine maintenance on Water Treatment Plant and Well facilities and grounds.
  6. Receives chemical shipments and maintains an inventory of treatment chemicals
  7. Performs control room duties; Monitors water distribution and pump system using a computerized SCADA system.
  8. Maintain plant cleanliness.
  9. Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience/Certification Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Class D Water License or ability to obtain license within 12 months of employment
  • Class C Surface Water Treatment within 2 years of employment
  • Valid Class C Texas Driver's License

Treatment Plant Operator II (Water) - $47,339-$60,358

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Assists in preparing and maintaining plant records, both operational and regulatory.
  2. Performs the required operational laboratory tests.
  3. Performs daily checks of the Water Treatment Plant and well sites.
  4. Advises the Water Treatment Foreman of needed maintenance at the plant and wells.
  5. Responsible for the implementation of appropriate safety standards.
  6. Performs daily reads on various meters.
  7. Maintains water treatment plant and well facilities and grounds.
  8. Performs control room duties. Monitors the water distribution and pump systems using a computerized SCADA system.
  9. Receives chemical shipments and maintains an inventory of treatment chemicals
  10. Other duties assigned

Education/Experience/Certification Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in operating and maintaining water treatment plants.
  • Grade C Surface Water License
  • Valid Class C Texas Driver's License

Treatment Plant Operator III (water) - $54,801-$69,870

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Directly supervises the water treatment crew in the required operational and maintenance duties of the water wells/surface water treatment plant.
  2. Assists in preparing and maintaining plant records, both operational and regulatory.
  3. Performs the required operational laboratory tests.
  4. Advises the Water Treatment Foreman of needed maintenance in the plants.
  5. Responsible for the training of new employees assigned to the treatment crew.
  6. Communicates with all utility personnel regarding plant and distribution system optimal set points.
  7. Directs or calibrates all automatic chemical feeding systems; responds to alarms related to equipment malfunctions and failures.
  8. Performs control room duties. Collaborates with operators and the integrator to optimize the treatment processes using technology and the HMI / SCADA system.
  9. Works with hazardous chemicals.
  10. Receives chemical shipments and maintains an inventory of treatment chemicals.
  11. Other duties as assigned

Education/Experience/Certification Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 5 years experience in operating and maintaining water treatment plants.
  • Minimum of Grade B Surface Water Certificate.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License

Benefits Overview:

  • 10 hours of vacation leave per month, 3 weeks per year.
  • 8 hours of sick leave per month, 12 days per year.
  • Sick leave incentive pay- Employees are compensated in December each year in the amount of 25% of their unused sick leave that they have accumulated during the preceding fiscal year.
  • Medical insurance and benefits are provided at zero premium cost to the employee.
  • 50% dependent health benefits premium contribution.
  • Dental benefits are provided at zero premium cost to the employee.
  • 24 hours of paid personal holiday leave each fiscal year.
  • 10 wellness hours each fiscal year for eligible preventive and mental health services.
  • Longevity pay of $8 per month begins with the first anniversary and will be paid on a separate paycheck in December of each year.
  • Retirement plan includes a 7% contribution of an employee's gross salary to the Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS) with a City contribution match of 2 to 1 (14%) at retirement.
  • Retirement eligibility requires 5 years of service at age 60 or 20 years of service at any age.
  • Employees also have an additional retirement fund option to participate in a 457 plan.
  • Long-Term Disability is employer-paid and covers 60% of the employee's salary up to $7,500.
  • Military leave provides up to 15 days of paid leave per fiscal year for eligible employees.
  • Education reimbursement assistance up to $2,000 per fiscal year.
  • Employer-paid basic term life insurance policy two (2) times an employee's base salary, up to $325,000 maximum.
  • 40 paid service hours are available to volunteer within our community.
  • Up to 160 hours of paid parental leave to eligible employees following the birth of an employee's child or the placement of a child with an employee in connection with adoption, foster care, or other legal placement to care for and bond with the child.
