The Planning and Community Development Department is excited to announce immediate openings for Code Compliance Officers in the Neighborhood and Business Services Division. Under general supervision, the incumbent ensures residential and commercial compliance with local zoning codes; enforces housing and property maintenance ordinances; noise and tree protections ordinances; and performs other related duties as assigned.
The Code Compliance Section maintains standards to preserve and enhance the quality of life in Pasadena by ensuring compliance with various regulations including building, land use, housing and property maintenance codes. Code Compliance also provides multi-family rental inspections and housing inspections of for-sale units.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE: The ideal candidate is a creative thinker that will have experience enforcing and interpreting provisions of federal, state, and local codes including but not limited to property maintenance, tree preservation, public nuisances, and inoperative or abandoned vehicles, as well as knowledge of the Building Code, Health and Safety Code, and land use (zoning).

- Interprets and applies municipal codes related to commercial and residential land use and property maintenance
- Performs various inspections relative to the City's mandatory Quadrennial and Presale Program
- Conduct lawful inspections utilizing the legal aspects of enforcement
- Reviews use permits, variances, subdivisions, and annexations
- Enforces City's Tree Preservation Ordinance
- Enforces violations of the City's Noise Ordinance
- Responds to telephone and public counter inquiries concerning various code requirements, including property maintenance concerns
- Researches property records and land use history
- Writes letters explaining code violations and performs follow-up to ensure correction
- Writes staff reports for the Code Enforcement Commission.
- Maintains appropriate records and prepares documentation for case prosecution
- Makes appearances and gives testimony at hearings
- Issues notices of violation and administrative citations; encourages and recommends solutions to aid in and expedite abatement
- Reviews and issues Home Occupation Permits

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE- Two years’ experience in Zoning, Housing, Building Inspection, or related municipal code inspection work is required.
- Basic CACEO/ICC certification is highly desired

VACANCIESThere is currently three full-time positions in the Planning and Community Development Department which may be filled as a result of this selection process. As a result of the selection process, an eligible list of candidates will be established which will be used to fill this vacancy and other similar vacancies that may occur in the future.
Candidates selected for this position are subject to a one-year probationary work period.A Code Compliance Officer may be required to provide an operable passenger motor vehicle for the purpose of performing field inspections and other related duties.
Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License is required at time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
PC832 certification must be completed prior to completion of probation. Proficiency in both housing and zoning code enforcement must be demonstrated prior to completion of probation.
This position may require periodic evening, late evening, or early morning inspections.
