City of Moorhead is Hiring a Mechanic - Maintenance Near Moorhead, MN

The City of Moorhead is accepting applications for Maintenance Mechanic in the Wastewater Division of the Engineering Department. This positions performs intermediate work conducting preventative and corrective maintenance on wastewater and stormwater equipment, inspecting facilities and lift stations, identifying and repairing deficiencies, maintaining records and files, and related work as required.

HOURS: Monday-Thursday 7am-4:30pm, rotating Friday 7am-11am. Flexibility and work/life balance!
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Performs preventative and maintenance on wastewater and stormwater equipment.
  • Inspects facility and lift stations; identifies deficiencies.
  • Repairs wastewater and stormwater equipment.
  • Operates various equipment including front end loaders, skid steers, mowers, etc.
  • Maintains and cleans stormwater/drainage ditch systems.
  • Maintains and adjusts grounds maintenance equipment and tools.
  • Performs routine inspections and minor maintenance on assigned vehicles and equipment.
  • Inspects municipal public works projects construction.
  • Televises public sewers and private services to troubleshoot problem areas and investigate potential sources.
  • Assists contractors in sewer repairs and/or bypasses.
  • Cleans and repairs sanitary and storm sewer lines, manholes and catch basins.
  • Maintains cleaning and maintenance records.
  • May assist and/or perform hazardous waste collection/disposal, welding and fabrication and biosolids recycling duties.
  • Participates in an on-call rotation providing first response to after-hour alarms or calls.
  • Performs other duties as requested.
  • Attendance at off-site courses/trainings/seminars may be required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
To perform the maintenance mechanic position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the formal education, experience and training required.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED
  • One year experience in operating and performing minor maintenance of heavy duty trucks and equipment along with experience in the maintenance and repair of mechanical, electrical and pumping equipment
Training, Certificates, and Licenses
  • Minnesota Wastewater Treatment Facility Class D Operator or S-D Certificate or 2-C Boiler License within one year of hire (training provided)
  • Valid class A commercial driver's license with tanker and air brake endorsement within one year of hire (training provided)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES
The maintenance mechanic requires general knowledge of the equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in maintenance and repair activities; general knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and pumping equipment, small gas and diesel engines and carpentry skills; general knowledge of occupational hazards of the work and of necessary safety precautions; skill in operating required tools and equipment; ability to perform heavy manual tasks including heavy lifting for extended periods of time; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS and WORKING CONDITIONS
The maintenance mechanic requires the regular exertion of up to 25 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires walking and lifting, frequently requires standing and repetitive motions and occasionally requires sitting, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms and pushing or pulling; work requires depth perception, color perception, night vision and peripheral vision; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to extreme cold (non-weather), exposure to vibration, exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).
