CITY OF MOORHEAD is Hiring a Custodian Near Moorhead, MN
The City of Moorhead is accepting applications for Maintenance/Custodian at the Hjemkomst Center. This position performs various duties needed for upkeep of the building. Duties include routine custodial, general maintenance duties, snow removal, lawn care and setting up for meetings/special events. Preferred candidates will have a boiler’s license.
Hours: Generally Monday-Friday days; occasional evening or weekend due to special events. Flexible
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to the following major duties performed. Duties are listed from most to least important.Administers and manages various projects and programs.
- Provides general maintenance for City buildings, facilities and grounds.
- Washes windows, walls, floors and bathroom fixtures.
- Performs rug and carpet cleaning.
- Disposes of refuse, litter and trash.
- Maintains building and facility grounds; mows lawn, waters grass, removes snow.
- Sets up building and rooms for activities and special events.
- Performs routine building/grounds inspection and security checks.
- Inspects boilers, chillers, filters, belts and compressors.
- Performs routine basic plumbing equipment repair.
- Handles minor repairs on equipment, furniture and fixtures; paints.
- Assists facility manager in determination of whether a service call is needed for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, heating and cooling systems.
- Maintains inventory; purchases tools and equipment.
- May occasionally complete mail/parts runs for various departments; pickup and delivery of bank deposits and receipts.
- Performs other duties as requested.
- Attendance at off-site courses/trainings/seminars may be required.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma, GED or higher
- One year experience in custodial and/or repair work, or related field
General knowledge of various maintenance and manual tasks involved in building cleaning and routine maintenance work; general knowledge in using common hand and power tools; general knowledge of the safe use and operation of tools and equipment; ability to perform manual labor; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS and WORKING CONDITIONS
This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, lifting and repetitive motions, frequently requires walking, speaking or hearing and reaching with hands and arms and occasionally requires sitting, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, tasting or smelling and pushing or pulling; work requires depth perception, color perception and peripheral vision; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to outdoor weather conditions, wearing a self contained breathing apparatus and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).
