Experienced electrical engineer in all conventional aspects of the subject matter of the functional area of the assignments, plans and conducts work requiring judgement in the independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria. Devises new approaches to problems encountered. Serves as technical resource and mentor to junior engineers. May act as point of contact during engineering manager absence.
The salary range is $98,600 to $138,100 per year, with a hiring range of $98,600 to $118,400 per year.

Loveland Water and Power Engineering is looking for a dynamic Electrical Engineer to join our team. You will have the ability to work with a variety of utility staff including line crews, designers, vendors and the public. Our ideal candidate will have prior utility experience, familiarity with utility infrastructure, an interest in new generation technology and grid automation, and experience with technology software and tools such as AutoCAD, ArcMap, and Milsoft.

Essential Functions
- Creates capital improvement programs including budget preparation, design, coordination with other City departments and utilities, plans and specifications, and bid preparation and award.
- Reviews vendor approval drawings for correctness and contract requirements.
- Develops and updates planning studies and maintains master plan for electric utility improvements.
- Evaluates the City's ability to provide service to all current and potential electric customers.
- Coordinates interconnection issues with other utilities for distribution level wheeling.
- Reviews submitted engineering designs for conformance with adopted master plans.
- Performs work which involves conventional engineering practice but may include a variety of complex features such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, and difficult coordination requirements.
- Develop project-specific specifications, evaluate proposals, and issue requisitions for electrical equipment.
- Develops and maintains material specifications and construction standards.
- Provide input to improve cost effectiveness or process improvement.
- Acts as a mentor and provides training to level I and II Electrical Engineers, designers, and drafters as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Other Job Functions
- Provides technical support to power operations personnel to plan, design, maintain, operate, and improve the power distribution network.
- Assists during recovery from power outages.
- Performs work in coordination with professional consultants.
- Attends Loveland Utilities Commission, Planning Commission, Construction Advisory Board, City Council, Joint Technical Advisory Committee, and other meetings as necessary.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Management Level & Responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibilities. This position will mentor and train other technical staff in the Utility.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Extensive knowledge of engineering practices and procedures with specific experience related to electrical power distribution systems.
- Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically with others.
- Ability to solve complex, non-standard power engineering problems.
- Independent decision making ability and assumption of personal accountability in design and application.
- Advanced level skills in Excel(r), power flow modeling software, or other analytical software (e.g. Matlab, Ampcalc, Mathcad, ETAP, etc.)
- Strong knowledge of codes and standards associated with electrical power (e.g. National Electrical Code, National Electrical Safety Code, applicable IEEE Standards).
- Ability to perform bid evaluations on complex proposals.
- Advanced technical writing ability.
Licenses or Certifications
- Must possess a valid Driver's License.
- Professional Engineer's License preferred.
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering required.
Work Experience: Minimum of six (6) years' progressively responsible experience in medium or high voltage power systems required. Prior utility experience or familiarity with utility infrastructure preferred.
Level of Physical Effort: Minimal physical effort typically found in clerical work. Primarily sedentary, may occasionally lift and carry light objects. Walking and/or standing as needed and minimal.
Hazards: Minimal exposure to hazards are typically found in general office environment where there is rarely to no exposure to injury or accident
Physical Working Environment: Exposure to routine office noise and equipment.
