City of Lodi is Hiring a P/T - Recreation Specialist Near City of Lodi P.O. Box 3006 Lodi, CA

Come join our team! The City of Lodi Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Services is now accepting applications for Recreation Specialist.

The most crucial part of a Recreation Specialist's job is supervising the children for whom he or she is responsible, must be able to keep their staff on task and to make sure all City policies, procedures and protocols are being followed. A Recreation Specialist is required to spend a majority of their time supervising the children, their staff and implementing the program. The Recreation Specialist must properly observe, maintain and keep the entire group for which they are responsible for safe. A major goal in working with children is to be a good role model and teach children to make good choices about their behavior. Recreation Specialists are responsible for verbally demonstrating the steps involved in identifying problems, generating options for resolving problems and choosing positive ways to help each individual child. The Recreation Specialist must plan, organize and lead recreation activities on an assigned elementary school site. Recreation Specialists must be able to delegate to staff: activities, jobs and must carry out all instructions given to them by the Coordinators and Recreation Manager. HOURS OF WORK: Applicants must be able to work 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Applicants mustwork all early dismissal days from school, usually once a month on Wednesdays, 12 noon to 6 pm. The After School Playground Program is open whenever school is in session. The applicant must attend Friday night monthly staff meetings (6:30pm-8:30pm).Ability to: Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, school staff, subordinate recreation staff and supervisor.
Applicant must be flexible when requested to move from site to site to cover ratios for safety.
Certificates: Current CPR and First Aid. If not current, must be willing to train and renew to hold this position. 
Experience/Education: High School diploma, twelve post-secondary semester units or equivalent in early childhood education, recreation, physical education, human services, social welfare, nursing, psychology, sociology, home economics or child development. Applicants must have at least six months of work experience in an exempt program, licensed day care center or comparable group childcare program. Eligibility for the first merit increase is effective after 12 months and for additional merit increases after one year intervals until the employee has reached the maximum step. The City does not participate in Social Security except for the required Medicare contribution. The City participates in Public Agency Retirement Services (PARS).
