Conducts internal audits and provides consulting services to assess risks, effectiveness of fiscal controls, accuracy of financial records and information to assure the City is compliant with Federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations.
Work Situation Factors:
Position involves competing demands, performing multiple tasks, working to deadlines, occasional work beyond normal business hours, and responding to customer issues.Position is subject to drug testing in accordance with applicable State and Federal regulations and City of Las Cruces policies.
Physical Factors:
Light physical demands;requiringsome lifting and carrying of files and reports. Frequent to constant use of a personal computer and calculator.
Environmental Factors:
Work is performed in a standard office environment; occasional travel to other city facilities; may perform surveillance of City employees at work.

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field AND three (3) years of professional accounting and/or auditing experience, preferably in the public sector. A combination of education, experience, and training may be applied in accordance with City of Las Cruces policy.
Licenses/Certification(s):
Valid driver’s license is required. Position requires an acceptable driving record in accordance with City of Las Cruces policies. Registration as a Certified Public Accountant with the State of New Mexico or Certified Internal Auditor is preferred; specific technical training and certifications may be required.
Considerable Knowledge of: International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing and the Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards (GAGAS); industry standard practices and policies; principles and practices of legal, ethical and professional rules of conduct; applicable state and Federal statutes, rules, codes and regulations; mathematical and statistical models for financial analysis; business and personal computers, and spreadsheet software applications; City organization, operations, policies and procedures to assist in the performance of essential functions and duties as outlined.Full Time
