Individuals in the Street Maintenance division of the City Golden Valley Public Works department work collaboratively with the three other Public Works Divisions (vehicle maintenance, utilities, and parks/forestry). The street maintenance workers perform a variety of complex and routine tasks involving the construction, operation, and maintenance of City streets. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform these essential functions: Construct and maintain streets, parking lots, bridges, alleys, and other City property, including pothole patching, cut-outs, paving, milling, and deploying traffic control or directing traffic to protect the work site.Use concrete materials and processes to repair and maintain City sidewalks and curbs.Repair and maintain traffic signs, pavement markers, street lights, and traffic signals in compliance with Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices.Continually clean and sweep streets, parking lots, trails, alleys, and other City property.Perform forestry tasks including tree-trimming and tree removal.Ensure clear and safe winter streets by plowing, distributing winter chemicals, shoveling, and snow-blowing City streets and affiliated properties.Operate and maintain city vehicles and equipment.Assist with public works maintenance responsibilities across other divisions as needed.Other DutiesPlease note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job. Work Environment & Physical DemandsWork is most often conducted outdoors, often under adverse and extreme weather conditions. Exposure to hazardous conditions, including operating power tools and equipment, and toxic materials, including raw sewage, garbage, landscaping chemicals, and hot asphalt. Employee is subject to noise while operating equipment and general noises in outdoor city environments. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to: Regularly read and interpret documents and other written material.Regularly communicate and exchange information with others through in-person meetings, telephones, computers, and written communication methods.Regularly remain in a stationary position and regularly move within the building to attend meetings and access machinery.Frequently operate and maintain both heavy and light equipment/tools consistently found in public city street, park, and utility operations and maintenance and/or construction.Frequently push/pull equipment and objects, traverse around the city, climb ladders, ditches and manholes, and move within confined spaces.Regularly operate computers, radios, and mobile devices. Frequently move or transport items weighing up to 50 pounds.
