City of Denton is Hiring an Engineer Near Denton, TX

Responsible for the design and implementation of municipal civil engineering projects.Key Responsibilities:
  • Assists with the management and design of projects in the capital improvement program from planning through construction phases.
  • May be responsible for assistance with the implementation of codes, rules and regulations applicable to development projects, and reviews of plans and specifications related to transportation, traffic, drainage or water/wastewater improvements.
  • Assists with the provision of information to and deals with developers, engineers, contractors, the public and outside agencies in relation to municipal design issues.
  • Assists with the preparation of written reports and agenda items for the City Council.
  • Provides technical assistance to other engineers and directs the efforts of engineering technicians in the department in relation to design issues.
  • Performs the duties of or acts on the behalf of the Senior Engineer in their absence or when requested.
  • Other assignments may include performing engineering calculations, selecting equipment components, preparing specifications, plan preparation and review, and report preparation related to water/wastewater, drainage, traffic and transportation projects.
  • Maintains regular and punctual on-site attendance.
Additional Duties:
  • Attends public meetings outside of normal work hours as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering
  • Registration as an Engineer-In-Training in the State of Texas with the ability to receive Professional Engineering license
  • Minimum of three (3) years directly related experience
OR
  • Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job
Core Competencies:
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to form and maintain effective relationships with coworkers and customers
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering in assigned area, including streets, storm water systems, traffic controls, water, wastewater and utility systems
  • Knowledge of the terminology, methods, practices, and techniques used in civil engineering
  • Skilled in the use of a personal computer including the following types of software: Windows, spreadsheets, databases, and presentation software
  • Ability to apply principles and practices of civil engineering in assigned projects
  • Ability to develop, review and modify civil engineering plans, designs, and specifications
  • Ability to operate specialized computer programs or systems utilized in civil engineering design including CAD
Preferences:
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English
  • Proficient in the use of AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Proficient in the use of ArcGIS software
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Texas
  • Experience in project management, subdivision review, and capital planning
Conditions of Employment:
  • Must have and maintain a valid Class "C" Driver's License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class "C" driver's license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 90 days of hire per state law)
  • Must pass a drug test, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check
  • Registration as an Engineer-In-Training in the State of Texas
  • Must be able to work outside of regular business hours as required
