City of Denton, TX is Hiring a Financial Analyst Near Denton, TX

Summary

Responsible for providing financial support to management and the citizens of the City of Denton.

Essential Functions and Other Important Duties
  • Researches, monitors, and reports various departmental operations and recommends solutions regarding various departmental functions as they relate to statistical analysis
  • Prepares, forecasts, and researches data/expenses pertaining to revenue and expenditures statistics
  • Assists in preparing the budget instruction manual, proposed and adopted budgets
  • Assists with quarterly financial report compilation
  • Monitors financial system for accuracy and provides analysis for expenditures and revenues throughout the fiscal year. Provides assistance for monthly reporting
  • Coordinates and organizes department requests for capital improvement program
  • Adds new accounts, banks and subsidiaries into the financial software system
  • Provides technical support to multiple department budget liaisons; answers questions regarding expenditure forecasting and provides assistance with the budget submission process
  • Assists in compiling Strategic Plan Performance Measures
  • Performs monthly analysis of expenditure forecasts
  • Verifies reports against source records to determine reliability
  • Verifies details of recorded transactions and conducts detailed examinations of statistics related to departmental revenue and expenditures
  • Utilizes financial software programs in evaluation of data as needed
  • Performs a variety of delegated research tasks and projects, documents findings, prepares reports, graphs, charts, and other illustrative materials as required
  • Interacts with various governmental agencies in order to obtain financial and legislative information
  • Maintains regular and punctual on-site attendance

  • Performs other duties as assigned
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Public Administration, or related field and four years of related work experience with emphasis in financial analysis and budgeting and/or revenue analysis
OR
  • Master’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Management, Public Administration, or related field with 1 year of related work experience. Preferences: Master’s degree, MBA, MPA, Certified Government Finance Officer (CGFO), experienced with JD Edwards
OR
  • Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job

Preferences:
  • Proficiency in Excel, Windows Office, PowerPoint, and J.D. Edwards
