SENIOR PLANNER

Position Type: Full-Time, Hours: 40 hrs/week
Job Summary: This is an advanced level professional position involving a wide range of assignments conducted under the general supervision of the Planning Director. The position is responsible for professional and technical work that involves a variety of work assignments in long range planning, comprehensive planning and current planning.
Job Description:
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES - Duties may include but are not limited to the following:
Performs advanced professional work related to a variety of planning assignments.
Manages complex planning studies, development applications and reviews consultant proposals.
Reviews and processes complex comprehensive planning amendments, rezonings, annexations, site plans and plats.
Assists in the update and amendments of the City Comprehensive Plan.
Responsible for data collection, research analysis and preparation of planning studies.
Reviews plans of other development requests and prepares staff reports.
Performs field inspections to gather data relevant to the development review process and/or to verify that development projects comply with approved plans.
Identifies community problems, issues and opportunities that could be mitigated through improved policies, procedures and community planning.
Develops strategies to promote economic and community development and efficient land use consistent with community goals.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Advanced knowledge of the philosophies, principals, practices and techniques of planning.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a major in Urban Planning or related area is required.
Four (4) years of recent progressively responsible professional experience in municipal/county planning or similar agency.
Master’s degree and AICP certification preferred.
A comparable amount of education, training, or experience may be substituted for the minimum requirements.
LICENSES
Possession of a valid Florida driver's license with an acceptable driving record required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
WORK ENVIRONMENT/ADA: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long of periods of time performing repetitive functions. Some of these functions include: filing, typing, plan review, sitting at desk and viewing display screen for extended periods of time. Weekly work schedule may include night meetings and site inspections of development projects.
