CITY OF ANGLETON is Hiring an IT Specialist Near Angleton, TX

Department:Information Technology (IT)

Reports To: Director of IT

Location: City Wide

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Classification: C-41

This position requires 65% travel throughout the City.

SUMMARY

This position aims to provide technical support to all users and systems within the City of Angleton.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The statements below are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by the individual(s) assigned to this position. The position description is subject to change by the City as the needs of the City and requirements of the position change.

  • Gathers information and data for various IT projects to increase user efficiency; creates new and updated workplace tools
  • Presents IT information and guidance that could lead to actionable events or purchases
  • Provides information and guidance on how to complete departmental tasks from a technological perspective effectively
  • Enforces IT policies and procedures
  • Answers calls for tech support; responds to emergency calls or emails for support
  • Implements IT projects for departments within the City as directed
  • Installs and upgrades software for users and vendors; performs upkeep, management, and administration of IT systems
  • Delivers and installs purchased equipment and recommends the purchase of various equipment and software
  • Creates training documentation for users; speaks to groups of co-workers regarding training and answers questions
  • Performs related work as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Broad knowledge of data processing systems, concepts, and methodologies
  • Experience in implementing effective and innovative software methodologies
  • Operations experience in a production environment
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Solid writing skills
  • Demonstrated aptitude for learning new technologies
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

The preferred way to obtain the minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform this position's essential duties and responsibilities are listed below. The city reserves the right to allow substitutions if a candidate or incumbent exceeds requirements in one area but may be deficient in another.

Education and/or Experience

The position requires an Associate's Degree or specialized courses/training equivalent to the satisfactory completion of two years of college, with two years of experience in information technology or a closely related field. Public entity experience is highly desirable.

Or

High school diploma/GED with five or more years of hands-on experience in information technology in lieu of a degree

Special Certifications, Licenses, and Designations

Valid Class C Driver's License in good standing

Position typically requires frequent bending; stooping; reaching; pushing; pulling; standing; laying down; walking; fingering; grasping; talking; hearing; seeing; repetitive motion; exerting up to 20 lbs. frequently and 10 lbs. constantly, and Occasional climbing of ladders; overhead reaching; climbing to heights; exerting up to 50 lbs of force occasionally.

Environmental Conditions

Employees may be subjected to extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises, and travel.

Availability Requirements

Employees may be on-call and required to work after regular business hours and on weekends.
