Lead Preschool Teacher
$24.00 - $27.00 Hourly
Part-Time, Temporary, Non-benefited, Year-round position

The City of Morgan Hill Parks and Recreation Division is currently recruiting for a Lead Preschool Teacher for the Summer and Fall 2023 program. This is a part-time position. The program is held at the Community and Cultural Center and follows a traditional school calendar (with a few weeks of summer programming).
The Lead Preschool Teacher serves as the classroom lead in a Morgan Hill Recreation Preschool class. The Preschool Teacher creates a safe and developmentally appropriate classroom environment and ensures an enriching and positive school experience for children ages 3 to 5. 
Schedule
The current recruitment is for a lead morning teacher (Monday-Friday from roughly 8am-12:30pm) and an afternoon lead teacher (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 12pm-4pm).
Selection Process
If you are interested in this exciting opportunity, please apply immediately as this announcement may close without notice, with a first screening on May 12th.  Applications will be screened, and those applicants determined to have the best experience, skills, and qualifications will be invited for an oral interview.Prior to appointment, reference check, a TB test, and background check must be completed, including fingerprinting for submission to the Department of Justice.Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Organize, plan, and deliver recreational preschool activities and curriculum. (see below) 
  • Supervise children ages 3 to 5 in a preschool classroom.
  • Guide the work of two Teacher's Assistants and a parent helper.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, orderly, and pleasant classroom environment.
  • Coordinate holiday and special family events (held during class time).
  • Purchase supplies and materials and maintain annual budget and expense records.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, other City employees, and the public using principles of good customer service.
  • Notify appropriate staff of any problems with site maintenance, or children and parents, and make recommendations as necessary
  • Monitor and enforce safety procedures; render first aid and CPR, if certified, as required
  • Follow written and verbal instructions from immediate supervisor.

PRIOR TO CLASS:

  1. Prepare classroom curriculum
    • Plan classroom curriculum and organize prep work
    • Prepare monthly calendar and theme activities
  2. Set-up classroom daily
  3. Check and respond to emails and voicemails; write and send parent notification emails (monthly calendar, field trips, and special event announcements)

DURING CLASS:

  1. Greet children and parents and supervise drop-off/check-in
  2. Communicate with parents: respond to/follow-up on parent concerns and communicate information about students
  3. Direct the work of Teacher's Assistants and parent helper volunteers
  4. Lead circle time
  5. Support and facilitate active learning by children during free choice play, art activities, outside play, and snack time
  6. Address behavior and/or safety issues through positive discipline approaches
  7. Complete incident/accident/ouchie documentation if needed, and notify parent and supervisor
  8. Supervise release time/checkout

AFTER CLASS:

  1. Clean classroom, materials, and equipment
  2. Secure storeroom and classroom

Education:

  • Equivalent to completion of 12th grade, GED, or higher level degree and completion of 12 college units in Early Childhood Education (ECE).

Experience:

  • Two years experience working in a preschool setting.
  • Experience leading a variety of activities with preschool-age children such as: music, free play, process art, motor skill development, science and math enrichment.

Certificates:

  • Standard First Aid and Safety and CPR certification must be obtained within the first three months of employment (employer paid).

Special Requirements:

  • Position requires availability of summer hours as well as full school year (September-June).
  • Applicants must be willing to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Applicants must be willing to work occasional evenings or weekends for open house and back-to-school events and staff trainings. 
  • Summer hours may be available.
