City of Hampton is Hiring an Associate Buyer Near Hampton, VA

Are you a detailed oriented self-starter eager to grow your career in procurement and purchasing? The City of Hampton has a great entry-level opportunity for an ambitious candidate who is computer savvy and interested in using their administrative and customer services skills to support the procurement division as an Associate Buyer. We are looking for a key team member who will play a valuable role in providing quality support services for both the City of Hampton and Hampton City Schools.
What you will be doing:
  • Preparing and approving purchase orders for City departments and Hampton City Schools in accordance with legal requirements and City of Hampton polices/procedures.
  • Providing excellent customer service and answering questions from employees and the general public.
  • Reviewing contracts and following up with customers, vendors and departments according to set deadlines and expiration dates.
  • Tracking and maintaining contracts, and preparing documents for storage or destruction in accordance with Library of Congress requirements.
  • Assisting with year-end closure for the City of Hampton and Hampton City Schools.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or successful completion of a GED.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of related experience in a governmental or private sector purchasing environment.
  • Thorough knowledge in the operation and use of microcomputer applications to include word processing, spreadsheet and database software.
  • An associate’s degree from an accredited college or university is preferred.
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered for this position.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria.
  • Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to any offer of employment or promotion.
