The Credit Risk Senior Officer I is a strategic professional who closely follows trends with North American banks, broker dealers and nonbank financial institutions and adapts them for application within Independent Risk Management. Act as a subject matter expect advising senior management, the 1st line of defense and business partners. Excellent communication skills required in order to negotiate internally, often at a senior level. Developed communication and diplomacy skills are required in order to guide, influence and convince others, in particular colleagues in other areas and occasional external customers. Accountable for significant direct business results or authoritative advice regarding the operations of the business. Necessitates a degree of responsibility over technical strategy.
Responsibilities:
- Strategic professional who closely follows trends with North American Banks, Broker Dealers and Nonbank Financial Institutions and adapts them for application within Independent Risk Management.
- Responsible for the review and challenge of financial analysis, risk assessment and credit structure recommendation for capital markets and lending products.
- Review and assess in-depth analysis of financial data and other information provided by the underwriter and/or banker in the field
- Recommend deal approvals to Senior Credit Officer in collaboration with 1st line of defense underwriter and business partners
- Supplement analysis with research and evaluations from a wide variety of sources to develop an assessment of client, competitor/ industry risks and trends for senior management and/or the Senior Credit Officer
- Monitor an assigned credit portfolio and complete periodic reviews; maintain a thorough understanding of the content and aggregate risks within the portfolio, trends and other key statistics
- Execute early warning procedures to promote preventative action where appropriate
- Assist in the development of appropriate procedures around approvals, underwriting, and portfolio functions in consultation with Independent Risk and senior business leaders
- Review and challenge 1st line of defense recommended credit guidelines around proposed risk appetite
- Assists revenue growth and contains credit losses, while managing risk within credit policy.
- Review and challenge requests for increase credit extension to an existing portfolio client.
- Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.
Qualifications:
- 10 years credit experience as a risk manager and delegation holder required
- Proven track record of successfully managing risk for a portfolio within the North American financial institution space
- Excellent communication and diplomacy skills required in order to negotiate internally, often at a senior level and occasionally with external customers
- Thorough credit and analytical skills, knowledge of capital markets and lending products
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to train, recruit, and mentor teams of professionals; Bold in approach to approve sound credit and highly collaborative work style
Education:
- Bachelor’s/University degree, Master’s degree preferred
