The Chronosphere Product Design team is seeking a UX Researcher (UXR) to work with our team, product management, and engineering to better understand our user needs. In a product & user driven environment you’ll make an impact by helping us elevate our existing research interview practice, curate past and existing research artifacts to help us better identify themes and share resources, and help us identify holes where new usage data could help us learn new and important things. You’ll be fully integrated with the Product Design team to collaborate on ideas, share learnings, and take part in every stage of the product development lifecycle.
As the first UX Researcher on the team, you will have the chance to shape the mold of UXR at Chronosphere for yourself and for those that follow. This role requires a self-motivated, tenacious person who can “speak technology” (this is a developer-facing product), thrive on learning new things, and find new opportunities where research can make a positive impact.
In your first 30 days, you will review the Chronosphere product, become familiar with our users, and understand the conceptual models underlying the current user experience. You’ll work on organizing the research repository and identify prevailing themes. You’ll take part in user interviews and other research, and take stock of our existing methods for gathering quantitative data.
Within 3 months, you’ll identify opportunities for further research, data gathering and analytics, and methods for better organization and sharing of research insights. Additionally, you’ll take part in the product development lifecycle for at least one development team.
Reporting to Sterling Koch, Head of Product Design.
Sterling has spent his tech career oscillating between design and development, and over the years has happily honed in on Product Design and Strategy for technical enterprise startups. His attraction to Chronosphere was immediate since it involved solving usability problems in a space that is notoriously difficult to reason about while getting to work with the people who helped define that space in the first place. As a manager, Sterling is way too prone to fun and humor, while loving to work hard together to solve serious (and sometimes tedious) design problems. Sterling trail runs 30-40 miles per week in the Boise foothills, sings tenor, and lives with his wife and two sons, who are all musicians, and a terrier, who is not.
