The Communications Coordinator is responsible for helping to develop and implement the organization's communications strategy, for both internal and external stakeholders. This includes collaboration across affiliates and departments to support the vision of a national nonprofit organization and affiliates with program reach in all 50 states and internationally. The Communications Coordinator reports to the Director of Development and works closely with other senior staff.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Strategy: Supporting the development and execution of the three affiliate's communications strategy, which includes media outreach, social media content creation; using traditional media, social media and other communications tools to execute a communications strategy

Media: Building media lists, helping pitch content to media outlets and track coverage. Develop press releases, media advisories, press statements. Help develop promotional materials for events and programs.

Social Media: Helping to manage social media accounts and developing engaging content for relevant target audiences

Writing: Writing and editing public-facing material for the digital space, including website content, as well as presentations, talking points and other compelling communications for various audiences

Brand: Oversee brand guidelines to ensure all outgoing products are in appropriate style and format with affiliate brand

Data: Regularly collect data, prepare presentations/reports and evaluate the status of communications reach and efficacy.

Internal Communications: Developing and managing internal communications, to include staff newsletters and other communications with board and key stakeholders

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field preferred.
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office applications required (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, Powerpoint) required. Knowledge of WordPress required.
  • Strong initiative and careful attention to detail required.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills are required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. Articulate, versatile, culturally competent writing skills required.
  • 2 experience with planning, coordinating and executing communications products required.
  • Experience working with reporters or members of the media preferred.
  • Ability to work well with others in a collaborative environment, efficiently communicate with coworkers and supervisors, and remain flexible, positive, and reliable under pressure required.
  • Some travel may be required. Travels alone or with other staff to visit program partners or donors when necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.
