Christian Career Center is Hiring a Staff Accountant Near Saint Bonifacius, MN

Expected Start: September 1, 2021

The Staff Accountant is responsible for and oversees Payroll functions, treasury management, endowment management, FEDERAL PERKINS Loan administration, Thompson Ministry Loan administration, administration of all cash transactions for Federal Aid programs, federal and state work study program reporting, and VA/Military Tuition Assistance invoicing. The Staff Accountant has indirect supervision of student billing and accounts payable and reports to the VP Enrollment & Administration.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

Payroll (25%)

Provide timely and accurate payroll process.

Cash Management (25%)

Monitor cash balance in all bank accounts.

Manage short term cash to maximize investment earnings in idle cash.

Reconcile all checking accounts on a timely basis.

Cash flow forecasting

Endowment (5%)

Manage investment in authorized investment accounts.

Reconcile investment accounts on a timely basis.

Manage endowment fund balances tracking gifts, earnings, and awards.

Work with scholarship committee giving them information needed to award scholarships.

Transfer awards to be used in awarding annual scholarships.

Federal Perkins Loan Program (25%)

Record and reconcile awards with University Accounting Service.

Work with borrowers when in need of deferments/forbearances.

Process Exit interviews for borrowers.

Reconcile Loan Fund and do annual federal reporting via FISAP.

Work towards closing out Perkins Loan Program

Federal Aid Programs (20%)

Monitor aid awarded and drawn down needed funds via Federal GAPS program.

Transfer federal funds and record entries to proper federal reporting accounts.

Reconcile federal funds to GAPS program.

Report Federal Cash transactions via FISAP.

 REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Extensive experience with database and advanced features of Microsoft applications, with a high degree of proficiency in Excel
  • Solid understanding of accounting practices and principles
  • Knowledge of Payroll principles
  • Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work within a culturally diverse environment
  • Ability to work independently as well as lead project teams
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to proactively manage a variety of projects and timelines; demonstrate initiative, resourcefulness and an ability to manage multiple assignments and deliverables.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS or BA degree in accounting or equivalent technical experience.
  • three (3) years of experience in accounting.

 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (in addition to the above minimum qualifications):

  • At least 3 years experience in higher education and/or non-profit fiscal operations or related areas
  • One (1) year of supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Endowment Accounting
