POSITION SUMMARY

The Development Manager reports to the Vice President of Advancement (VPA) and is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the fundraising activities of the development team (individual giving, corporate engagement, special events, and volunteer engagement). This position will be responsible for training and developing current and future development staff, working with the VPA to develop fundraising goals for all areas and events, and implementing aspects of the development department’s strategic plan.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Individual Giving

· Directs the annual fund program, including mailings and annual fundraising drives.

· Maintains a personal portfolio of individual donors with the ability to make major gift contributions ($5,000-$25,000) to the agency on an annual basis, personally executing cultivation, solicitation and stewardship activities.

· Work with CASL’s development staff to create and implement a calendar of stewardship activities designed to cultivate and steward current and prospective supporters at all giving levels. 

· Oversees and coordinates a schedule of donor cultivation events, leveraging existing special events and identifying new opportunities to introduce current and prospective supporters to CASL’s work in creative and inspiring ways.

Supervision of Development Associate, Individual Giving Officer, Corporate Relations Officer, and future development staff: 

· Provides basic supervision including but not limited to, reviewing time & attendance, data-base maintenance, bi-weekly supervision, and annual performance reviews

Donor Information Administration 

· Manages the operation, function and organization of the organization’s Salesforce relational donor database. Responsible for training staff on database contact management system and notification for gift renewals to appropriate staff members.

· Oversees the data entry for all donations including preparations of personalized acknowledgements letters within 48 hours upon receipt of donations.

· Ensures the production of mailing lists, regular financial, analytic and management reports, pledge reminders and special customized reports as needed.

· Manages online giving program including set-up of special event online giving websites and coordination of all e-mail donor correspondence.

· Develops and manages prospect research through wealth screening software and public resources as requested. Maintains donor screening files and assigns the appropriate staff for follow-up.

· Enters donor notes into Salesforce, if needed.

Events

· In conjunction with development staff, develop and execute an events strategy to increase net events income in addition to acquiring new donor prospects that will feed into the annual fund.

Volunteerism

· In conjunction with the development associate, develop and execute a volunteer program strategy that serves to provide in-kind support to CASL programs

· Develop strategies to transition individual volunteers into CASL donors and corporate episodic volunteers into individual ongoing volunteers

· Manages and guides the Associate Board in all activities, meetings, and reporting to the Board of Directors

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education/Experience:

· Bachelor’s Degree required.

· Minimum eight years’ work experience in development required.

· Must have a strong personal commitment to the mission, vision and values of CASL.

· Demonstrated success in planning and managing fundraising events. 

· Demonstrated success in external relationship management and securing volunteer targets. 

· Able to communicate (verbal and written) and work effectively with volunteers, staff, and outside vendors.

· Able to manage details and follow through with a minimum amount of direct supervision. 

· Superb organizational skills and attention to detail. 

· Demonstrated success across fundraising strategies, including annual and major giving, corporate and foundation relationships, volunteer engagement, creative special events, comprehensive and/or capital campaigns, and effective use of data and reporting mechanisms. 

· Extensive knowledge of best practice fundraising principles, including the techniques and practices for garnering individual and institutional support.

· Ability to write persuasively, clearly, and concisely to blend information from multiple sources into a single, effective fundraising document that meets the needs of the prospect.

Edits work for correct data, spelling, and grammar. Reads and comprehends simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

· Ethics & Judgment - Treats people with respect; tactfully approaches others, works with integrity, and exhibits sound judgment; Willingness and ability to seek-out, share and adopt ideas and best practices in and outside the institution and embraces change introduced by others. Usage of discretion with confidential materials is required.

Physical Demands:

· Required to frequently sit for extended periods and work extensively on a computer. 

· Required to occasionally lift/move objects weighing in excess of 25 pounds.

Environment and Scheduling:

· Work is performed primarily during standard business hours, Monday through Friday. Some evenings and weekends may be required. 

· Must be flexible and available to work additional hours when necessary.

· Valid driver’s license required.
