Software Engineer (Artificial Intelligence Machine Learning AI/ML) (Journeyman)

Chimera supports our customers with advanced intelligence analysis to aid analysts, the warfighters and decision makers. You will be supporting a research and development team in Springfield, Virginia located at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency. This position is full time and a Government Security Clearance is required.

As a software engineer you will work as part of a small team, developing a framework and tools to enable cutting edge artificial intelligence (AI) experiments with research level geospatial imagery data. This is a tool to enable machine learning (ML) code experiments. You will work with existing tools that tag and label data, help make improvements and test the tools. You will work with users to validate the tool and incorporate their user feedback into new release versions. You will track releases, bugs in Gitlab and work on updating the tool with the feedback provided. Updated include new features such as implementing security for private objects, better auto-segmentation, etc. As new projects are identified for experiments with the tool, you will ingest any existing labeled training data they may be using into the database. You will be required to collaborate effectively with other team members who will also be building other tools to be used by other Intelligence Community partners. Communication and collaboration are important aspects of this team to ensure tools run correctly and effectively.

In this job you will:

• Perform tool Experiments
• Review, edit, and further develop existing code provided by experiment partners
• Explore different AI and MLOps platforms to be used within the tool
• Document all findings on Confluence page
• Develop model training and inferencing templates which can be used for demonstrations of a platforms strengths and capabilities, or for a new project to use as boiler plate start-up code
• Manage API Endpoints to identify the API endpoints for the software and platforms that the tool uses
• Develop scripts, set amazon web service (AWS) roles, and validate permissions to allow for automated data flows between those API endpoints (e.g., Being able to train a model in Syntasa, and save it to the Deepcore core model catalog)Document your code in proper software deliverables
• Present your work in technical forums and analyst exchanges
• Collaborate with other teams within the DoD and IC.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills 

• Bachelor’s BA/BS Degree in an Computer Science or Engineering field and a minimum of 4 years relevant job experience or in place of a degree may substitute 11 years of relevant work experience.
• Experience with systems integration and engineering, AWS, Linux OS, Docker, Python
• Experience with Python coding intermediate skills 2-3 years minimum of python specific experience.
• Familiarity with Machine Learning model training and inferencing. Must have experience with Training Datasets (curating them, tracking them, storing them), Model training in both pytorch and tensorflow, Hosting model inferencing through cloud processing
• An active TS/SCI Clearance with CI Polygraph (or willing to sit for polygraph)

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

• AWS Cloud Engineering / Architect skills.
• AWS Cloud Practitioner certification
• Linux experience, or shell script experience
• Machine Learning Operations experience
• Database Engineering
• Master’s degree MA/MS. In place of the degree may substitute 15 years of relevant work experience.
