Part-time (20 hours per week).Job OverviewUnder the supervision and direction of a licensed pharmacist and following established policies and procedures, performs a variety of technical procedures to support hospital pharmacy operations.ResponsibilitiesPOPULATION SPECIFIC CAREa.) Adult - >18yrs to 65yrsESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSAn employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform.Accurately and safely selects and prepares medications for dispensing, and delivers patient medication as directed by a licensed pharmacist.Performs non-sterile compounding and packaging including nonhazardous and hazardous drugs.Answers telephone calls and triages appropriately.Performs inspections for medication outdates.Assures medication needs for patient care are met through inventory management, maintenance of work areas and equipment, stocking Omnicells, receiving and stocking medications and supplies throughout the pharmacy areas.Maintains environmental cleanliness in accordance with regulatory and policy requirements.Fills requests for controlled substances and accurately maintains all required records.Enters patient charges.Teaches, trains and/or mentors new employees, students and other healthcare professionals according to standard operating procedures.Maintains daily workflow to meet established priorities and production requirements.Documents activities according to hospital and department policy, and in accordance with regulatory requirements.Sustains quality and safety initiatives and practices in the department and throughout the hospital. Reports adverse drug events and medication variances using the hospital variance reporting program (QSRS).Performs sterile compounding which may include chemotherapy.Sustain, maintain, and look for ways to improve the medication barcoding system.Other InformationKnowledge Skills and AbilitiesMaintains knowledge and proficiency of all pharmacy computer systems, applications, and Omnicell.Passes all required competencies and skills assessments.Maintains competency in sterile and non-sterile compounding, formula compounding, pharmaceutical calculations, generating computerized batch reports and other miscellaneous computer functions.Maintains knowledge of department and hospital policy, procedures and documentation requirements.Maintains knowledge and proficiency of all pharmacy hardware and equipment.SCOPE AND LEVELGUIDELINES: Trains in the field and assists higher level personnel to acquire learning through practical experience. COMPLEXITY: Performs routine and/or basic tasks common to the field. Procedures, methods, and techniques to be used are well established with options to be considered well defined.
