Requirements

Summary: The Orthodontic Registered Dental Assistant supports dental care delivery by preparing treatment rooms, patients, instruments, and materials; passing instruments and materials; performing procedures in compliance with the Dental Practice Act.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Assists the doctor in procedures
  • Operated x-ray equipment and takes x-rays
  • Instructs patients on oral hygiene
  • Create patient experience that reflects impeccable customer service
  • Establish rapport with patients and parents
  • Provide accurate and detailed treatment card charting
  • Provide accurate and detailed briefing for the doctor
  • Prepare clinical workstation with all required instruments and supplied needed to carry our clinical procedures
  • Anticipate doctors needs for each clinical procedure and be proactive in preparation
  • Follow universal/standard precautions to avoid cross contamination
  • Take impressions for study models and appliances
  • Prepare teeth for bonding
  • Assist doctor with bonding
  • Place and removes
  • Check for loose bands and brackets at the beginning of each appointment
  • Fit bands
  • Remove size and place arch wires
  • Remove bands and brackets
  • Initial seating of appliances
  • Follow OSHA protocols and guidelines

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education and/or Experience: Certification from a dental college; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience, preferred.

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of basic office equipment such as: computer, internet, email, copy and fax machines, and telephone.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: California Registered Dental Assistant License, CPR/BLS certification, X-Ray Certification, Coronal Polish Certification required. Sealant Certification and Ortho Assistant Certification, preferred.
