SUMMARY OF DUTIES

Provides education on healthy growth and developmental milestones, provides anticipatory guidance, and/or teach callers to problem solve challenges. Develops a trusting, non-intrusive relationship with the caller. Provides referrals and linkages to callers to community resources as needed and when applicable. Assists with the creation and distribution of resources materials. Coordinates and participates in community outreach activities. Assists with the development of and facilitation of parent and general education in-person and virtual workshops. Responsible for supporting students and/or volunteers in agency as directed. May be responsible for providing "Train-the Trainer" workshops for the Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ) as well as the Ages and Stages Social-Emotional (ASQ-SE). Teaches and provides information on a wide variety of topics, including child development, stress management, parenting, nurturing and family life, and Protective Factors Framework as indicated by participant needs. Provides linkage and support in accessing community resources. Assists families, through advocacy or concrete help, to navigate systems to receive needed services. Answers phone calls/texts on The Parent Line from professionals, community members and primarily parents with children ages birth to 18 years of age statewide. Completes necessary documentations and miscellaneous reports in a timely manner. Maintains participant confidentiality and professionalism at all times.


EDUCATION AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

  • High school plus additional training equal to 2 years of college, which requires knowledge of a specialized field or may lead to licensing, (data processing, accounting, human services), or formalized apprenticeship program. For example, certified substance abuse counselor, bookkeeper, etc.

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of over two (2) years of supervised work experience with children and/or parents. Must have experience in working with issues such as child abuse and neglect, domestic violence and substance abuse and must be willing to work with parents that may present safety issues.

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Knowledge of child growth, development and behavior. Knowledge of positive parenting practices. Ability to provide education, support and resources to strengthen families. Good written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work with families of diverse ethnic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as required. Valid driver's license, current no-fault insurance coverage, satisfactory driver's abstract, access to an insured vehicle.


OTHER POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • This job requires a valid Hawaii driver's license, a clear driver's abstract, and use of personal vehicle to transport participants, as needed, as well as a willingness to travel in personal vehicle on an as-needed basis throughout the island.

  • Continued employment in this position is contingent on successful completion of CPI classes OR other Behavioral Management certification as may be contract-mandated.
  • Continued employment in this position is contingent on successful completion of First Aid classes.
