As a CPI Tool Maker, you will be responsible for operating variety of machine tools and work with designers and engineers to develop or modify tooling.

As a CPI Tool Maker, you will occupy a key role in working with and for a company that builds the physical infrastructure that powers, protects and secures the world’s digital technology. Day to day, you will, work Under general supervision, designing, constructing, maintaining, and repairing machine shop tools, dies, jigs and fixtures. Your assignments will require considerable ingenuity and are varied in nature. You will work from drawings, specifications and diagrams; check work using precision inspection instruments and devices.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Designs tools and specifies equipment to meet stated job objectives.
  • Reads and interprets drawings, works from verbal/written instructions, or uses the part itself to obtain necessary information for tooling design.
  • Plans the setup and operation of all types of machine shop tools, considering types of material, tolerances, types of cutting tools, coolants, lubricants, and machine tool feeds and speeds.
  • Heat treats and welds parts as required.
  • Determines specifications for inspection of work, using precision measuring and gauging tools, performing required inspection before, during, and after machining.
  • Performs hand operations involved in producing jigs, fixtures, tools, and dies. Uses hand tools of the trade.
  • Fits and assembles jigs, fixtures, tools, and dies. Sets up, runs off, and tests dies to produce a product to specifications, tracing die difficulties to their source and correcting same.
  • Supports production as needed by processing materials through machining center.
  • Trains/mentors HAAS operators as needed.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Cleans up sweepings of machine tool operation scrap and places in trash bin. May assist machinists and millwrights in punch press overhaul. May work with product designers providing input to manufacturing capability on newly formed products.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

Technical Competencies

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Six (6) years machine shop experience.
  • A minimum of four (4) years combined experience running lathes, mills, and surface grinders along with a minimum of two (2) years of inspection or self-inspection of manufactured parts.
  • Intimate knowledge of shop math including geometry and algebra.
  • Expert in blue print reading and understanding.
  • Knowledge of electronic drafting.

Physical/Environmental Requirements

  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, carrying, stooping and crouching.
  • Lift up to 40 lbs.
