Responsibilities

Schedule

Monday – Friday 7:30am - 4:00pm (some flexibility on schedule)

The Role

The Senior Accountant is responsible for supporting the Accounting Manager and Controller and finance group as a whole. This position maintains and controls the General Ledger accounts and business transactions of the organization, applying the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) that includes analytical work and thorough review of financial records. Prepares and reviews balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other financial reports for tax reporting purposes. Responsibilities also include reconciling GL accounts, analyzing past costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations incurred to predict current and future revenues and expenses. Requires a bachelor's degree in area of accounting or finance and a minimum of 5 to 7 years of experience as a staff accountant. Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within the accounting cycle.

Essential Responsibilities Include, but Not Limited To:

  • Review state and city tax payments for tax compliance
  • Review company license and permit renewals
  • Review fixed asset and bank reconciliations
  • Perform and review general accounts analysis and reconciliation
  • Perform and review activities related to month end close of the General Ledger
  • Assist outside auditors at year-end to include preparing and reviewing schedules, invoices, providing explanation of supporting materials and procedures, and preparing any other necessary data
  • Learn, understand, and review current accounting policies and procedures. Provide recommendations for improvements. Assist in implementing new policies and procedures
  • Cross train with staff accountants and act as primary backup for their duties
  • Provide support to divisional management
  • Assist in internal and external audits
  • Assist in administration of vendor rebate program
  • Research anomalies
  • Additional special projects and tasks as assigned

Qualifications

Desired Experience, Skills, & Abilities:

  • BA/BS Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related major required. Masters preferred
  • CPA license preferred
  • At least five to seven years’ experience in a staff accountant role
  • High attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Ability to balance multiple projects and assignments
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Intermediate to advanced skill level in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
  • Previous Microsoft GP (Great Plains) and AS – 400 experience a plus
  • Experience with Tableau a plus
