Professional Requirements

Job Summary:

The benefits specialist is responsible for assisting with the administration of all benefits and retirement programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, and 401(k) plan.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Ensures the accuracy of all benefits enrollments in the HRIS to provide vendors with accurate eligibility information.
  • Runs reports, performs data analysis and presents data on a regular and requested basis.
  • Makes recommendations on enhancements to benefits, including opportunities for overall cost savings.
  • Performs quality assurance of benefits data.
  • Assists employees regarding benefits claim issues and plan changes.
  • Distributes all benefits enrollment materials and determines eligibility.
  • Enrolls employees with carriers and process life status changes.
  • Responds to benefits inquiries from managers and employees on plan provisions, benefits enrollments, status changes and other general inquiries.
  • May processes and administer leave-of-absence requests and disability paperwork: medical, personal, disability and FMLA.
  • Effectively interprets FMLA and ADA implications as they relate to leaves of absences/disabilities.
  • Responds to 401(k) inquiries from managers and employees relating to enrollments, plan changes and contribution amounts. Manages the annual catch-up contribution enrollment.
  • Manages the open enrollment process.
  • Administers the tuition reimbursement program.
  • Provides necessary reports for allocation/billing charges.
  • Serves as the Systems Administrator for all benefit portals.
  • Manages and executes all employee reward and recognition activities, including budget management.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field of study.

Preferred Education:

  • Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) certification credential.

Minimum Work Experience and Qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge of employee benefits and applicable laws.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Must be able to work in a union environment.

Required Licensure, Certification, Registration or Designation:

  • Current Los Angeles County Fire Card required (within 30 days of employment).

SERVICE & QUALITY: In addition to defined technical requirements, accountable for consistently demonstrating service behaviors and principles defined by the CHA Medical Management, as well as specific departmental/organizational initiatives. Also accountable for consistently demonstrating the knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors necessary to provide superior and culturally sensitive service to each other, to our patients, and to purchasers, contracted providers and vendors.

WORKPLACE SAFETY: In addition to defined working conditions and physical requirements, employees are accountable for working safely; following established policies & procedures; utilizing all designated protective personal equipment (PPE) and/or safety equipment assigned for task; and reporting all injuries and hazards to their supervisor immediately.
