We are currently seeking Structural Engineer IV to join our Infrastructure Team based in either Albany, NY; Indianapolis, IN; Rochester, NY; Syracuse, NY; or Blacksburg, VA.

YOUR IMPACT

CHA has developed thousands of water-related projects, each taking into account our clients' unique environmental, water quality, permitability, and funding concerns. Our water and wastewater management offerings include full engineering and support services for industrial and municipal wastewater treatment systems from initial planning through permitting, design, bidding, construction administration, start-up, certification, and ongoing operational assistance.

The Structural Engineer IV is responsible for the design and analysis required for the development of structural components, for new and existing building structures, to suit the needs of the water and wastewater systems. This position requires the ability to plan, schedule, and coordinate design phases of a project while collaborating with other engineering disciplines and project management staff. This position also requires internal collaboration with other structural team members, mentoring junior staff and providing technical review of their work as needed.

The candidate should possess the ability to recommend alternative design solutions to improve the quality of the constructed building structure to ensure optimal solutions for our clients. Selecting and applying proper procedures to self-check his/her own work for completeness and accuracy in technical reports and calculations. Provide complete record calculation packages for quality control and project submittal. This position requires the ability to independently identify, develop, and gather technical resources, building codes and standards as necessary to complete assignments. The candidate should have the ability to continuously monitor the progress and performance of a projects design development against the project work plan and schedule.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering required
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required
  • Minimum of 4 years of structural engineering building design experience required
  • Independently complete complex development of engineering design, preparation of specifications, compile technical reports and other activities requiring the knowledge of standard engineering principles and techniques
  • Responsible for the development of design computations, technical reports, technical specifications and preparation of contract documents using the standards established by the structural group
  • Identifies, develops, and gathers technical resources necessary to complete assignments
  • Selects proper procedures to self-check his/her own work for completeness and accuracy in technical reports and calculations
  • Recognizes technical discrepancies in analytical results and makes appropriate corrections following standard procedures established by the structural group
  • Plans, schedules, conducts and coordinates detailed phases of a project independently with other engineering disciplines and project management staff
  • Continuously monitors the progress and performance on a project to ensure efficient production, to uncover potential problems and to minimize malfunction in executing a design
  • Continuously monitors the progress and performance of the engineering design development against the project work plan
  • Can develop individual discipline work plans to coincide with the milestones of a project work plan
  • Complete projects within budget and scheduling restraints
  • Provides guidance to junior level engineering staff members
  • Demonstrates a strong knowledge of the structural engineering discipline with the proven ability to practically apply best practices
  • Familiar with applicable building codes and design standards.
  • Familiar with QA/QC procedures and understands basic business practices and laws related to engineering
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership skills and effectively work in a collaborative environment
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to adapt communication style to suit various audiences
  • Advanced proficiency with engineering, computational, and modeling software (Revit, AutoCAD, Tekla, RAM, ENERCALC, Mathcad, etc.)
  • Proficiency with MS Office software required
  • An active role in a professional engineering society/organization preferred
