Ceres Solutions Cooperative is Hiring a Diesel Mechanic Near Lafayette, IN

Description

DIESEL MECHANIC 

FLSA Status: Full Time/ Non-Exempt (Hourly)

Reports to: Energy Director

Summary: This position repairs heavy/medium duty trucks at various Ceres Solutions locations or possible roadside as required. This role will serve west-central Indiana from the area of Rensselaer to Vincennes.

Requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Supports Ceres stated Vision, Mission, and Business Values.
  • Provides outstanding and courteous customer service.
  • Continuously follows the safety guidelines and safety programs of Ceres Solutions, wearing appropriate PPE when necessary, identify safety hazards and be proactive in safety protocol.
  • Performs inspections of vehicles as required by Department of Transportation (DOT), perform preventative maintenance inspections as required. Will assess vehicles to assess extent of damage or malfunctions.
  • Perform major and minor electrical and mechanical repairs to both gas and diesel vehicles. Preventative maintenance performed includes but is not limited to air and exhaust systems, brake systems, fuel systems, pumps are related parts, transmissions, etc.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on Diesel Exhaust Aftertreatment Systems including DEF tank, line heaters and dosing valve.
  • Tear down and repair PTO drive units, PTO shafts and pumps.
  • Test drive vehicles, test components and systems using computer diagnostic devices.
  • Test and adjust repaired systems to meet manufacturers’ performance specifications.
  • Complete required forms and paperwork for fleet mobile maintenance including, but not limited to, repair orders, inspections forms, etc.
  • Must be able to manage tasks with frequent interruptions, manage priorities, and work well within a team.
  • Productive communication with drivers to discuss vehicle issues is essential
  • Will supply own tools to meet repair requirements; also maintain responsibility for company provided vehicle and provided equipment.
  • Travel Requirements: Willing to travel to multiple Ceres locations.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or GED; or a minimum of 5 years or more related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be experienced in Preventative Maintenance, Steering, Brakes, “Air and Hydraulics”, Suspension, AC, and Diesel Engine repair and Diagnostics.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Mathematical Skills

Basic math skills.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Class B CDL preferred but not required.

The employee is frequently required to stand; walk and sit. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment The characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme cold and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
