Centrica Care Navigators is Hiring a Training and Development Specialist - Full time Near Kalamazoo, MI

Centrica Care Navigators, formerly Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan, is seeking a Training and Development Specialist to join our team on a Full-Time basis at our corporate office on Stadium Drive in Kalamazoo. This position generally works Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm, but may apply for a flexible schedule after your orientation period. 

Under the general supervision of the Director of Human Resources, the Training and Development Specialist will create, develop, implement, and conduct training and development programs for the employees, as well as support all functional areas of the Human Resources Department. 

Primary duties of this position include the following:

  • The coordination of the agency new hire orientation program. Presents the HR policy and forms section for first day orientation. Acts as back up to the other HR professionals on the team. Reviews evaluations of each program and recommends changes to these programs based on new employee and presenter feedback. Coordinates any changes to existing programs and facilitates the creation of new training programs as they align to agency needs and goals.
  • Assesses training and development needs through surveys, interviews, focus groups, and communication with managers, instructors, and customer representatives.
  • Creates, organizes, plans, and presents various forms of onboarding, orientation, and skills training for staff.
  • Develops unique training programs to fulfill workers specific needs to maintain or improve job skills.
  • Creates and/or acquires training procedure manuals, guides, and course materials.
  • Presents training and development programs using various forms and formats including group discussion, lecture, simulations, and videos.
  • Maintains records of training and development activities, attendance, results of tests and assessment, and retraining requirements.
  • Assesses training materials prepared by instructors.
  • Evaluates program effectiveness through assessments, surveys, and feedback.
  • Maintains knowledge of the latest trandes in training and development.
  • Prepares and implements training budget; maintains records and reports of expenses. 
  • Runs reports from HR databases as requested and performs quality checks on all HR related data.
  • Completes special projects by setting timetables and schedules, conducting research, developing, organizing, and presenting information.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, etc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Primary requirements for this position include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field with three (3) to five (5) years previous training and development experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous experience developing training materials and programming, orientation, and performance management.
  • PHR (Professional Human Resources) certification highly desirable.
  • Excellent understanding of Human Resources practices and employment law.
  • Excellent attention to detail with an extremely high level of accuracy.
  • Very strong computer skills, high proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), previous learning management and Human Resources Management System database experience, and previous experience creating and managing employee curriculum. 
  • High sensitivity for confidentiality of materials/information processed.
  • Maintains a valid Michigan driver’s license and has the availability of a reliable, licensed and insured vehicle for use on the job; vehicle must be insured in accordance with the State of Michigan.
  • Remains up-to-date on all routine immunizations required by LARA and agency policy. Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

  • Ability to manage flow of paperwork and maintain an efficient and up-to-date tracking and filing system.
  • Ability to research and analyze different types of information/data and provide recommendations.
  • Very effective oral and written communication skills, including presentations, preparing reports, policies, etc.
  • Ability to work in close proximity to other team members while being mindful of shared office etiquette.
