Description

Development Officer - This professional position represents HCCF to the community, prospective and current donors, board members, and other constituencies. This is a front-line fundraising position that assists the President in managing development efforts throughout Hamilton County, with a focus on our Partners (annual giving), Projects (Community Leadership Initiatives) and Products (donor-advised funds, donor-directed funds, scholarships, endowment, planned giving, etc.)

Primary Job Functions: 

1. Identifies, cultivates and solicits annual, major gift, planned giving, and event sponsorship prospects, to help HCCF achieve its mission in the community. 

2. Identifies, cultivates and solicits Partners, Projects and Products in Hamilton County. 

3. Identifies, cultivates and solicits new charitable Organizational Funds. 

4. Manages a portfolio of prospective donors. This includes proactive outreach to new and current influencers to generate opportunities for the acquisition of new Partners, Projects and Products

5. Conduct a minimum of 15 face-to-face prospect meetings monthly. It is expected that this position will maintain aggressive monthly contact goals and exceptional prospective donor records in the Foundation’s integrated database, including profile information, history, codes, interests, etc.

6. Works with the President in developing and executing the Foundation’s strategic plan as it relates to fund development.

7. Manages the HCCF Development Committee. 

8. Plays an active role in the formation of development goals, systems, measurements and implementation of development strategy in coordination and collaboration with the CICF Philanthropic Services Center of Excellence. 

9. Represents HCCF in the community by building awareness of the purpose of the Foundation and its benefit to potential and existing donors. 

10. Acts as a primary external representative of the Foundation with regard to numerous development initiatives in Hamilton County. This includes communication positioning; convening appropriate internal/external meetings, and providing communication guidance and overall management of our involvement in the initiatives. 

11. Assists with managing donor relations and communications through calls, thank you letters, e-newsletters, drafting appeal letters, and other communication. 

12. All other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Required Skills and Qualifications:

1. Ability to perform the essential functions of the position. 

2. Fully vaccinated against coronavirus, per CDC guidelines.

3. Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree is required or equivalent work experience.

4. Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in development, not-for-profit, or public sector is required. Major gift fundraising and experience in working with high-net-worth individuals are preferred.

5. Understanding of, and sensitivity to, the ethical issues inherent in negotiating gifts as a representative of a charitable organization.

6. Understanding and adherence to high standards of ethics and confidentiality.

7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 

8. Ability to work effectively as part of a team and work independently with little supervision.

9. Excellent organizational and workload prioritizing skills.

10. Excellent conceptual and analytical skills; ability to research and analyze data and information. 

11. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

12. Ability to organize, facilitate, and manage projects and meetings in an efficient and effective manner.

13. Ability to work evenings and weekends as necessary.

14. Ability to travel between multiple office locations and attend off-premise events, such as community events and meetings. 

15. Possession of a valid driver’s license and reliable personal vehicle.

Working Conditions: Flexible hybrid office environment (in office three days a week). Home base–English Foundation Building in downtown Indianapolis, plus additional space and expectation of presence in Hamilton County Community Foundation’s Fishers office.
