Center for Court Innovation is Hiring a Planner Near Syracuse, NY

The Center for Court Innovation is a non-profit organization that works to create a more effective and humane justice system by performing original research and helping launch reforms around the world. The Center creates operating projects that have been documented to improve public safety and reduce the use of jail and prison. Nationally and internationally, the Center performs original research on topics of justice reform and provides consulting services to criminal justice innovators.

The Center for Court Innovation has operated an office in Syracuse, New York since 2004. The Upstate Office assists in the development of new problem-solving court initiatives, provides technical assistance to existing problem-solving courts throughout Upstate New York, and plans and implements new programs focused on improving the delivery of justice.

The Center for Court Innovation is looking for a bright, energetic self-starter to join the Upstate NY office’s Cities RISE team, based in Syracuse. The Planner will work closely with a central team that develops, runs, and supports housing and civil justice programs. The selected candidate will directly report to the Deputy Director of the upstate office. The position will include substantive and administrative responsibilities and provides an opportunity to help shape policies and practices; work closely with the Center’s Cities RISE staff and other key City of Syracuse stakeholders, including judges, attorneys and city officials; lead or participate in planning and research for new initiatives, including convening meetings and one-on-one interviews; coordinate or participate in the team’s project management on new and existing projects; and develop a close knowledge of the Center’s Upstate NY Office and City of Syracuse housing efforts.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Support daily administrative and strategic operations, including tracking progress on a wide-range of initiatives;
  • Coordinate data management, data collection, and reporting;
  • Identify key stakeholders and community partners;
  • Initiate and convene strategic planning, resource mapping, and action planning around issues relating to owner-occupied residences, low-level zoning infractions, and LLC transfers;
  • Support, coordinate, and participate in internal project management meetings and provide administrative and organizational support;
  • Identify and document restorative justice outreach and implementation efforts;
  • Assist in the creation and submission of funder reports, grant proposals, policy papers and articles, and other materials for a wide range of internal and external audiences;
  • Coordinate the development and assessment of protocols, procedures and best practices and implement with new and existing initiatives;
  • Assist in developing and providing management support to existing programs and operations;
  • Facilitate meetings and develop agendas;
  • Draft reports and prepare presentations and materials for internal and external meetings; and
  • Provide administrative support for the Cities RISE and Upstate Office including but not limited to organizing conference calls and meetings, documenting efforts, editing documents, and assisting with the submission of reports;
  • Additional relevant tasks, as needed.

Qualifications:

  • The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree (required) and at least three years of work experience in a related field (preferred);
  • Outstanding organization, written and verbal communications skills;
  • Ability to maintain strong relationships with multiple agencies and organizations;
  • Must be able to work well with people from a wide range of personal and professional backgrounds;
  • Highly proficient with word processing and database programs (Microsoft Office);
  • Experience with project management, data analysis, document review or grant reporting is preferred;
  • Possess a proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously;
  • Preference will be given for City of Syracuse residency.

Compensation: Hourly rate begins at $30.44 per hour and is commensurate with experience.
