Catoosa County Government is Hiring a Building Maintenance Technician I Near Ringgold, GA

Job Summary

Under immediate supervision; Responsible for performing routine building maintenance tasks. Performance of building maintenance tasks in one or more fields (e.g., carpentry, electrical, HVAC, plumbing) Perform general cleaning. Perform other tasks as assigned.

Job Duties

  • Assist Maintenance Technician II with Inspecting buildings, electrical systems, grounds, and equipment to ensure safe, well-maintained conditions, identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair.
  • Assist Maintenance Technician II in performing minor electrical maintenance to include but not be limited to replacement or repair of fixtures (e.g., light bulbs and tubes, ballast, sockets, minor appliances, cords, etc.) using appropriate hand, power, and specialty tools.
  • Assist Maintenance technician in performing minor plumbing maintenance (e.g., replacement or repair of leaks in drains and faucets, unclogging of drains, trenching, and laying new lines, replacing or repairing drain hoses and similar devices.
  • Performs minor painting, carpentry, and masonry work (e.g., preparing surfaces and using brush, sprayer, or roller to apply paints, stains, and varnishes, hanging doors, fitting locks and door hardware, etc.)
  • Performs a variety of horticultural task (e.g., mowing, mulching, weed whacking, tree trimming, etc.)
  • Assist with moving loading, unloading, and storing supplies, furniture, platforms, and equipment.
  • Operate a variety of machinery, equipment and tools including saws, drills, sanders, planers, drill press and various hand tools.
  • Maintain inventory of tools, supplies, and equipment; recommend tools, supplies, and equipment for purchase.
  • Basic ability to read, interpret drawings, or oral instruction on a variety of structures related toa construction project.
  • Complete maintenance work orders as assigned and in a timely manner.
  • Wear proper protective equipment (PPE) while performing duties (i.e., safety glasses/goggles, hard hat, etc.).
  • Picks up and delivers supplies, and equipment and maintains required documents.
  • Locates and removes refuse and recyclables from County property or County Right-of-Way.
  • Assists higher level maintenance staff at job sites performing duties of the Public Works Department.
  • Maintains regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Subject to on-call after hours maintenance duties with rotating schedule.

Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proper use, handling, and care of small tools and equipment used for horticulture, building maintenance, and road and right-of-way maintenance, etc.
  • Materials, methods, and the tools involved in building and ground maintenance.
  • Applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations, codes, and/or statutes.
  • Lifting of heavy objects.
  • Ability to work from aerial platforms.
  • Able to work in all weather conditions.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work with diverse personalities in a tactful, helpful, courteous, and professional manner.
  • Able to multi-task.
