Loaves & Fishes Driver
St. Lucy Food Project Ministry

Primary Office: 613 N. Royal Ave, Front Royal, VA

Hours per Week: 40 (Non-Exempt)

Hourly rate: $20.12/hour

 

Position Description:

Transport and distribute food as directed by the Pantry Manager to multiple distribution locations or in support of the local food rescue program. Maintain the vehicle fleetassigned to the pantry and all associated records. Augment partner grocery store food pickup as needed. Provide overall maintenance and support in the pantry facility as needed.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Along with Pantry Assistant, conduct mobile food distributions throughout the Shenandoah Valley and Piedmont using a pickup truck and/or refrigerated van, ensuring proper documentation via Food Bank Manager and Link2Feed databases and upholding proper food safety handling policies and procedures.
  • Work with (Hub Warehouse Manager) and Pantry Assistant to support a food rescue program throughout the Shenandoah Valley and Piedmontwherever present to the extent possible.
  • Conduct bulk food deliveries to venues supported by the Loaves and Fishes Pantry.
  • Maintain SLP Loaves and Fishes Pantry vehicle fleet records to include fuel usage, safety inspection, registration renewal, and maintenance performed and coordinate projected expenses with Pantry Manager and Program Director prior to scheduling for maintenance.
  • Schedule and drive vehicles to routine and required maintenance locations or direct authorized volunteers to do so for remote locations.
  • Conduct safety checks prior to vehicle use. Ensure volunteers are aware of safety policies prior to using vehicles.
  • Safely drive the SLP Loaves and Fishes fleet of vehicles as required: refrigerated van and minivan.
  • Assist in receiving, unloading, storing, packing, and distributing food to meet mission objectives.
  • Supervise and train volunteers as needed. Collaborate with and receive training direction from the Manassas Warehouse Foreman for vehicle safety and facility safety training.
  • Practice site risk management, troubleshooting and resolving safety, service, and other operational problems in collaboration with CCDA administration.
  • Maintain and operate machinery and equipment as directed.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the pantry as requested.
  • Monitor volunteers working in the pantry as requested.
  • Assist in coordinating food transfers among CCDA SLP sites or arrange distribution to SLP pantry network.
  • VIRTUS and food safety certifications required after on-boarding.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Pantry Manager and the Program Director.
  • Knowledgeable and willing to uphold Catholic moral and social teaching and treat all employees and volunteers with dignity and respect.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Organization/time management/planning skills to include effective multi-tasking.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to a variety of audiences, strong reasoning, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Communication skills to result in positive interactions with vendors, food donors, volunteers, clients and community organizations to reflect Catholic Charities Diocese of Arlington (CCDA) principles and values as opportunities are presented or occur.
  • Ability to consider alternative courses of action and select the best one; tackle problems or issues directly and make decisions in a timely manner; exercise sound business judgment.
  • Must have a valid Virginia driver's license.
  • Ability to satisfy Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) requirements in correctly and safely operating equipment, such as manual pallet jacks, etc.
  • Computer literate with a working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Word and Excel.

Education and Experience:

  • Associates degree or some college or equivalent work experience.
  • Labor experience including loading and unloading trucks, securing loads, and lifting heavy items.
  • Food handling health and safety requirements. Complete food safety/sanitation training within 120 days at Catholic Charities expense.
  • Security of the warehouse building and its stock.

Physical Demands:

  • The employee is required to lift up to 60 pounds from a standing position. Must also be able to use such items as hand trucks, dollies, carts, pallet jacks and/or a forklift.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to use a computer keyboard and handle heavy boxes and pallets of food; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. Required to stoop, kneel or crouch and climb a ladder.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
