Catholic Charities is Hiring a Business Specialist Near Omaha, NE

The Microbusiness and Asset Development’s mission is to help people transcend poverty through entrepreneurship. The Business Specialist role helps educate and assist clients in becoming successful entrepreneurs by providing classroom training, workshops, and seminars either in-person and/or virtually. You will also provide one-on-one consultations assisting clients to develop business plans, registering/renewing their businesses, and answering any other questions they may have. This role assists the Director and Manager, Microbusiness and Asset Development in establishing and maintaining partnerships with other community organizations, businesses, and volunteers to ensure the success of the program. 

Essential Job Functions:

Continuous Education

  1. Present and/or host seminars and workshops on different topics. 
  2. Assess the content of the trainings/seminars and assist the Program Manager/Director in any efforts to improve curriculum according to clients’ needs
  3. Assist with the recruitment efforts and ensure class participation
  4. Assist with the development of the annual calendar for seminars/webinars. Find speakers and coordinate logistics of such seminars/webinars.

 Business Consulting

  1. Provide technical assistance in English and Spanish to clients in all business-related issues: Business Plan development, business registration, EIN application, Sales Tax Permits, Sales Tax reports, licenses applications, estimates, etc.
  2. Research different business topics to keep updated on any regulation or change in business practices that may affect business owners.
  3. Stay knowledgeable in industry practices of those industries that are of most interest for our clients such as cleaning, construction, food, etc. as well as research information as needed.
Community involvement and Outside partnerships
  1. Coordinates whatever teaching structures and relationships as needed to support program participants and further the goals of effective microbusiness development.
  2. Maintains working positive relationships with related community groups, including NBDC, OSBN, SBA, EEC, SourceLink Nebraska, lending institutions, and all other organizations and programs which further the continued development of microbusinesses.
  3. Assist Program Manager with the supervision of the volunteers as needed
  4. Coordinate and maintain real-time communication with alumni group. Organize ongoing activities to promote mentoring and support to former alumni members.

Record keeping/Reporting.

  1. Conducts periodic surveys, both of current class participants and of graduates to determine ways to improve the training and/or assistance with general small business development.
  2. Maintains current records and reports associated with the classes, technical assistance, and workshops provided. This information is needed for agency statistics, accountability for funders, and for program history. Utilize case management software according to the program’s expectations and protocols. 

 Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

  1. Support the Director with program expansion project as needed.

Marketing Lab

  1. Assist develop strategies to operate the marketing lab efficiently and effectively.
  2. Assist customers with questions, advice, assistance and development of their business marketing needs with social media, basic graphic design and digital marketing strategy during the Marketing Lab open hours.
  3. Keeps the program updated with trends, apps, and information to always provide the best service to customers.

*Reliable attendance is an on-going essential job function.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Must be fluent in English 
  • Fluency in a secondary language (Spanish) REQUIRED
  • Understanding of diverse cultures with sensitivity to all low-income persons and other disadvantaged persons with multi-cultural backgrounds.
  • Good verbal and written communication and adult teaching skills.
  • Computer proficiency including MS word, excel, power point, outlook. Graphic Design Programs knowledge would be a plus.
  • Up-to-date working knowledge of small business management and self-employment issues, including requirements at the local, state and federal level.
  • Ability to function as an active, collaborative team member.
  • Knowledge of Catholic Charities’ mission, values, vision, and ethical standards.
  • Knowledge of the Catholic Charities Compliance Program requirements including – but not limited to – the Code of Ethics, the Compliance Policy, all organization-wide policies for compliance and compliance procedures affecting specific duties and responsibilities.
