Our team is looking for a hands-on Principal Data Architect to be part of a dynamic, high performing team leading the development and implementation of the Global Finance Data Platform. This team is performing a vital role in transforming our mindset to using data as an enterprise asset by enabling platforms that bring data to modernized data platform on AWS & Snowflake. Job Description: This position is globally recognized within Caterpillar as an expert in Information Technology and Data Architecture. The role includes developing a data platform from the ground up to support the Global Finance organization to drive transformation initiatives. The individual will function as a technical leader, ensuring that the data architecture is secure and sustainable. The Principal Data Architect is accountable for creating the long-term vision of the platform, as well as delivering to the necessary projects to support the Global Finance Transformation Strategy. This position demands strong leadership with the ability to collaborate across the organization. You will be working with current and emerging technologies, and guiding teams to delivery. Hands on experience, excellent analytical skills, team orientation, flexibility, innovative thinking, problem solving, conflict management, and self-motivation are required. This role includes responsibility working closely with internal customers (Business units, divisions, Digital Finance CoE, etc) to develop business requirements and drive them into the future state data platform as well as with Global Information Systems, and partner data platform teams. Individuals must demonstrate creativity, foresight, and mature judgment as they anticipate and solve unprecedented business problems. The position is challenged to identify problems quickly and correctly, which are not obvious. Projects are typically complex and integrate business issues and problems, multiple application solutions, multiple technologies across various architectures. The incumbent solves problems by determining the best course of action from many existing solutions and works dependently with little oversight or direction. Communications for needed investments, architectural changes, or business needs is critical to ensure solutions can be created to meet strategic business capability needs. Job duties include but are not limited to the following: Lead designing of all aspects of our data solution including artifact creation such as diagrams, playbooks and other technical documents Lead architecture assessment and design for infrastructure and integration domains that provide core capabilities for the enterprise. Initiate and deliver to design Design of end-to-end enterprise integrated systems that serve multiple business users. Lead the design and implementation of enterprise data model and metadata structures for complex projects Define which data is extracted and the rules by which it is transformed for complex projects. Develop and maintain current, planned, and future state architecture blueprints. Ensure programs maintain an enterprise-wide view to support adoption of standards and practices and promote reuse. Build consensus around solutions where possible and giving direction when needed. Drive teams to implement a modern data and analytics platform Partner with various business stakeholders and technology leaders to translate program requirements into scalable technical solutions and system designs Collaborate with other members of the data platform team and financial services team, to evaluate solutions and gain consensus on technical solutions Research, design, test, and evaluate new technologies, platforms and third-party products Work with technology teams to prototype and prove the viability of solutions Facilitate planning for production implementation of solutions Ensure alignment of solutions with Enterprise Architecture principles and guidelines Research and understand new technology trends and products Socialize information on technology trends and products Provide leadership and expertise in the development of standards, architectural governance, design patterns, and practices SKILLS: Common Skills: Leadership, Team working, Inter-personal and Influential skills. Minimum Requirements An accredited, four-year Information Technology degree, a closely related technical degree, or equivalent experience Progressively related experience of least 10-15 years and recognition as a domain expert is necessary Experience in AWS and Snowflake is required Top Candidates will also have: Strong demonstrable experience delivering product and/or enterprise architecture for enterprise scale solutions in public cloud and hybrid eco-systems. Must have in-depth understand and experience in two or more of the following: massive real-time event and message processing, data lakes, Big Data transformations and analytics, IoT edge and cloud data processing, SQL and NoSQL data modeling Strong understanding of Agile SDLC implementation in public cloud eco-system including environments management, test automation, peer review, CI/CD, resource optimization, etc. Must have excellent communication skills and be able to deal with sensitive issues, mentor and coach and/or persuade others on new technologies, new applications, or potential solutions. Familiarity with ML and data analytics Understanding of enterprise data integration and analytical platforms (C3 IoT, Pentaho, Snaplogic,..) Hands on experience with Core Java, Spring, Python, etc. Hands-on development experience in public cloud environment (AWS preferred) Experience in multiple business processes or organizations and experience in multiple digital disciplines is also beneficial.
