The Role:

Backstage Holdings is seeking a hybrid Staff Accountant in the greater Los Angeles area to assist in the management of accounting functions across Backstage and our subsidiaries. You will be joining a high-performance team of six, including a Staff Accountant, Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller, Director of Accounting, Director of Financial Controls & Process Improvements, and the President of Backstage. We’re a hardworking group that values autonomy, collaboration, process, data-driven decision making, and the contributions of every team member.

Backstage has experienced significant growth over the last two years through our acquisitions of Mandy, StarNow, ShareGrid, Coverfly, ShareGrid, FilmFreeway, and Voice123. As Staff Accountant, you will have the opportunity to work on process improvements and assist in developing new accounting policies and procedures across all entities. In this role, you’ll be playing a significant role in the month-end close process, including preparation of journal entries and supporting account reconciliations. 

This is a hybrid position, where you will be required to report onsite to our Burbank office 40% of the week during training. After training completes, you should expect to work from the Burbank office 20% of the time. The Staff Accountant will report to our Accounting Manager.

What You’ll Do:

  • Perform month-end close activities, including preparing journal entries and account analysis
  • Prepare and reconcile general ledger accounts during month-end close
  • Review GL account coding for vendor and customer transactions
  • Research and resolve accounting discrepancies
  • Maintain prepaid, accrued expense, & fixed asset schedules
  • Prepare ad-hoc financial reports and analyses
  • Uphold best practices, ensuring that all tasks are “auditable” and GAAP compliant
  • Provide support to corporate finance team and external auditors during year-end audit
  • Partner with Director of Accounting and engineering team to track and monitor internal use software projects under ASC 350
  • Assist with weekly, monthly and quarterly financial reporting, including cash flow forecasts and departmental reporting
  • Complete ad hoc projects as requested by the executive team

What we're looking for from you:

  • 2 years of general ledger or other relevant accounting experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline
  • Must be available for occasional in office meetings in Burbank as determined by manager; onboarding and training will be hybrid in-person/remote in the Burbank office
  • Familiarity with our financial tech stack, especially Oracle (e.g. Concur, Avalara, Taxjar, bill.com, Quickbooks, Xero)
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP, financial statement preparation, and management reporting
  • Intimate familiarity with intercompany accounts, pre-paids, and accruals
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Google Sheet; comfortable manipulating large data sets
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline driven, dynamic work environment
  • Autonomous with excellent project management skills; you are able to set and meet your own milestones and manage multiple competing priorities
  • Highly collaborative with proven ability to work with our team, customers, and external vendors
  • Fast and eager learner; receptive to constructive feedback
  • An entrepreneurial and flexible mindset; you’re excited about the opportunity to contribute in diverse ways across a scaling business
  • Strong analytical, investigative, and problem solving skills
  • Exceptionally detail-oriented on both form and function
  • Excellent communicator
  • Experience with system implementation(s), and/or integrating newly acquired subsidiary accounting and finance function a plus
  • Prior experience working in a remote, decentralized organization across multiple time zones desired

The base compensation range for this position is $80-$85K annually. Compensation is commensurate with various factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, qualifications, skills, training, licensure, certifications, geographic cost of labor, and other business and organizational needs.
