Description

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Health Information Management Director, medical records technicians are responsible for organizing and managing patients health information data. They ensure paperwork is properly filled out, verify accuracy and accessibility of files, and are responsible for keeping all files secure. Medical Records Technicians communicate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to clarify diagnoses or to obtain additional information. They also must transfer the data from a doctors notes into a patients permanent medical record. The Medical Records Technician maintains electronic health records (EHR) databases and analyze electronic data.

Job Duties:

  • Preparing patient charts and gathering information and documents from patients
  • Retrieve medical records by following chart-out procedures; documenting reasons charts cannot be retrieved for statistical and follow-up purposes
  • Ensuring that the patient charts and medical records are organized, accurate and complete
  • Assist with departmental audits and investigations
  • Creating digital copies of paperwork and storing the records electronically
  • Filing the paperwork and reports of inpatients quickly and accurately
  • Safeguarding patient records and ensuring that everyone complies with the HIPAA standards
  • Transferring data into the facilitys main system database
  • Processing the records for admitting and discharging patients

Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent

Experience: 1 year experience in handling medical records preferred. Familiarity with medical terminology preferred.

Physical Requirements: This position required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle and feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to bend, kneel, crouch, climb stairs, and reach overhead. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
