We work hard to create an engaging, supportive company culture where we can all thrive while doing work that improves education every single day.

Our Machine Learning & AI Engineer will conduct state-of-the-art machine learning and AI research, leveraging rich data from students’ digital learning experiences to enhance their learning outcomes. The Machine Learning & AI Engineer will work on projects like real-time recommendation systems and data-driven “detectors” of student learning, behavior, and affective states, fully embedded within instructional platforms like Carnegie Learning’s MATHia and new products and instructional modalities.

  • Drive the development of predictive models of students’ learning processes and performance and provide real-time data and recommendations to teachers and administrators
  • Look for opportunities to use AI, including the development of new algorithms and adopting existing techniques, in our products to improve customer outcomes
  • Explore opportunities to support the (partial) automation of the creation of adaptive learning content
  • Work closely with Research and Data Pipeline teams to ensure that we are effectively instrumenting our products and capturing high-quality data suitable for different types of analyses
  • Support the design of production data pipelines as needed to support machine learning and AI workflows
  • Work closely with Research organization and act as a bridge to integrate their results into our product offerings
  • Explore and implement opportunities to utilize “off-the-shelf” tools and libraries (e.g., in NLP, Vision, Speech Recognition) to produce advanced outcomes by meeting the educational needs of all students
  • Consult with others in the company on opportunities to leverage data to improve operations

WHAT SHOULD BE IN YOUR BACKPACK

  • B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, or related discipline with appropriate emphasis on quantitative methods, including practical applications of machine learning techniques

  • Experience with a database query language (e.g., SQL, etc.)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate with software developers and researchers to understand technical limitations and challenges, propose alternatives, and evaluate tradeoffs
  • Preferred: Experience with and knowledge of cloud computing data architectures and tools
  • Preferred: Experience in working in multi-project research-oriented organizations
  • Preferred: Experience working with a cross-disciplinary team of researchers and software engineers to support customer-facing products
  • Nice to Have: Experience with Javascript, Typescript, and related web-programming libraries (e.g., Angular)
