Carl Zeiss is a biomedical device manufacturer that produces a full line of intraocular lenses (IOLs) and ophthalmic surgical products for cataract and refractive surgery. Zeiss is looking for detailed oriented Machinists. Machining personnel are responsible for the machining of all Hydrophobic and/or Multi-focal lenses and documentation. Controls or operates divers machinery or equipment to assist with manufacturing and other steps along a production line. Operates a variety of computerised numerical control machines (CNC-machine) and is able to make adjustments to the CNC programming. The role requires a professional education of 3 years and a professional experience of 1-2 years. This role covers 3 tiers. This job profile represents tier 2 of 3. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Operate 1PC and 3PC Machining Cell using lathe, mill and drill combination safely and efficiently. Consistently meet quality and daily shift outputs. Keep the machining cell clean and organized. Maintain minimum average yield of 90% at Pre-Tumbling. Complete understanding of all applicable MSOPs, process parameters, quality standards and line clearance requirements. Maintain proper documentation per GDP, filling-out work orders correctly. Accurately record quality and quantities achieved. Listen and communicate effectively with the Leads and Supervisors on any workstation issues. Operate microscope, comparator and BFL Bench. Measure dimensions, diopter and BFL and image quality of IOLS. Understand and read lens drawings, and overlays. Able to perform in process inspections per assigned quality specifications. Perform all general lens inspections for quality, surface defects and impurities. Control and adjust proper temperature on equipment. Maintain clean vacuum lines. Hands on knowledge of all utility connections (airlines, vacuum tubes, power). Perform all machine setup, tooling changes and adjustments. Able to train new Machinist I. Power Lathe/Mill CNC machines through the menu and set the machines for production. Ensure all finished products meet quality standards and specifications. Ability to effectively communicate with others within and outside the organization (i.e. management, supervisors, coworkers, inspectors and auditors from various governing bodies, such as FDA auditors). Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Two to three years of CNC machining experience, or one year of CNC machining experience with college courses or technical schooling accreditation in machining is required. The hourly rate range for this position is $18.00 -$22.00 The salary offered for this role may be influenced by factors such as job location, scope of role, qualifications, education, experience, & complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent.
