PURPOSE:
The Accounting Operations department at CareFirst is a fast-faced department that handles the day-to-day functions of the Accounting cycle including account reconciliations, journal entries, account research and analysis, and the month end account close process. This internship will provide an opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment and participate in a variety of functions to obtain hands on experience relative to most organizations.
Principle Accountabilities
CareFirst runs a year-round internship program. The ideal candidate is someone who can work throughout the year at a minimum of 15-20 hours in the Spring/Fall and up to 40 hours in the summer.
Education/Experience: This position requires an individual working towards at least a Bachelor's degree from an accredited College or University. Junior or Senior Undergraduate or Graduate level student targeting majors in Accounting or Finance, with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.

Principle Accountabilities

- Assist the Accounting Operations Department (CFA) with running daily check register reports that will be used for daily/monthly balancing
- Assist the Accounting Operations Department (CFA) with balancing the EFT and Out of Area Recovery Claims accounts for current and prior periods
- Assist the Accounting Operations Department (CFA) with performing research and analysis on various account reconciliations including corresponding with the CFA Finance team, offsetting transactions to determine any discrepancies, and communicating with management on your findings
- Assist the Accounting Operations Department (CFA) with preparing and submitting monthly journal entries
- Assist the Accounting Operations Department (CFA) with daily cash receipt applications
