This newlycreated position will report to the Corporate Controller and will be responsible for working with them to direct the day-to-day accounting operations of the company's multi-facility Midwest division and joint venture. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS FOR THIS POSITION: Oversee month-end accounting pre-close & close process including ensuring closing activities are completed timely and with a high degree of accuracy. Publish monthly financial reports in accordance with defined reporting deadlines. Hands-on Assistant Controller responsible for overseeing core accounting functions including Accounts Payable, Cash Disbursements, General Ledger Accounting, Inventory Accounting, Fixed Asset Accounting, Commission Accounting, and Sales and Use Tax Compliance Reporting. Lead, manage, and train accounting department staff in assigned areas of responsibility. Work as part of cross-functional teams to identify process improvement opportunities and improving departmental performance, reducing costs, ensuring better execution, and organizational understanding of prescribed internal policies and procedures. Employ durable, systems-based solutions wherever possible. Manage multiple accounting ERP systems for multi-facility organization so that accurate reporting is maintained in support of the company’s core business segments (industrial packaging, P-O-P displays, fulfillment services, and packaging supplies). Create and maintain data analysis tools via Sequel and Microsoft Access to facilitate management reporting for effective decision-making. Oversee daily production labor reconciliation process between ERP system diary cards and time clock punches. Reconcile fulfillment labor agency billings vs. internally reported temporary labor. Assist with implementation of new ERP systems and develop new accounting processes to align with core ERP functionality. Assist the VP-Finance and Corporate Controller with special projects as needed. Other duties as assigned. REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPEREINCE: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, preferably a CPA certificate. Proficient in GAAP. Manufacturing experience. REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES: At least 2-5 years of experience within a similar managerial accounting role. Ability to coach, train, and motivate direct reports to advance departmental skill sets and staff opportunities. Establish achievable goals to define expectations of staff and support their performance and development. Ability to delegate duties as needed to balance workloads and support departmental performance. Proficient in Microsoft office suite and other accounting system programs; advanced level of Excel proficiency (i.e., pivot tables, VLOOKUP commands, charts & graphs, etc.). Knowledge and proficiency in use of Sequel queries and Microsoft Access data bases to extract data from ERP systems for ad hoc reporting to support management's focus and action. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Familiar with graphic representation of data. Detail oriented, demonstrate high degree of accuracy; well-organized. Ability to see the big picture while working with others in problem-solving activities. Ability to prioritize tasks in accordance with needs of department / organization. Ability to work independently with minimal or without supervision. Ability to work well with peers in cross-functional teams to develop productive business relationships and drive needed change.
